Rang my child's mobile and said they were from a government department and left a robotic like message with American like accent to say if you do not ring back this phone number we will organize for you to be arrested

I got a call on 25th September - could nt attend it, so a voicemail was left. Sounded like an automated voice message. Not sure if i heard "calling from the Department Division". Message said if i do not get back to them, i would get arrested.

Caller: An Indian man pretending to be ATO

I received a phone call from a robot voice (think ‘windows 95’) which told me they were the ATO - Australian Taxation Office and that I would be arrested if I don’t call them back, then the robot hung up on me. I thought, very strange.

I called the number back and asked for the persons name, as I would call the ATO and ask for them specifically as the number they called me on was unknown. The Indian man who answered, was dancing around my questions so I knew now that they were illegitimate. As if threatening an arrest wasn’t illegitimate enough. The number comes up from Perth, Western Australia.

So I called the ATO from their official website and have confirmed these people at phone number (08) 9467 5761 ( (08) 9467 5761 ) are not working for the ATO.

I urge anyone receiving calls from this number ((08) 9467 5761) to not give any personal information and to report your experience to the ATO via contact on their official website.

These people - are what’s wrong with the world.

Same as all the others, threatened to have me arrested I’d I didn’t return the call... Scammers!
I blocked them.

I received two calls this morning, to my mobile, from (08) 9467 7356. I missed the calls as I was in a meeting. Sane sort of thing, an American Robotic message telling me they will issue a warrant for my arrest, unless I contact them. No number was given during the message and they also didn't actually state who they represented.

Caller: Supposedly ATO

Claimed to be the ATO and that the local authorities were listening to the call. Claiming I willingly defrauded the tax department and that I would need to pay over $5000 or risk jail, frozen accounts, frozen wages and assets. These guys should be chased up by the authorities. Does anyone know how we can report this kind of thing?

Caller: taxation department - so they said!!!

they said I needed to listen to them because there was an arrest warrant out for me. I said " are you telling me I owe the tax dept money?' reply was "yes" , so I told them it was bullsh*t and hung up.

Same as all the other comments. Block this number. If really a government dept it would be a blocked call or a 1300 number. American Robotic message.

Called and left message to call the number. American accent who said I would be arrested if I did not call back. If ATO wants me they have all my details and it shouldn't be that difficult to send through correspondence to Mygov.

Left a message with a number they said if I din't contact them they would issue a arrest warrant.

Bogus message saying call back or an arrest warrant will be issued. Scam I assume.

Robotic Voice with American Accent said they were calling from the "Australian Department of Taxation" - hung up immediately and blocked number.
Scam call, ATO would not attempt to contact people in this manner.

Missed call and they left message claiming that I would be arrested if I did not ring back. When I called back they claimed to be from the ATO and asked me for my name and details. When I challenged them that they should already have my details, they just hung up. SCAMMER.

Same as the others listed here - a message was left on my mobile saying something garbled 'getting filed under your name, the moment you receive this message I want you to get back to me on my department division number' - which incidentally wasn't stated. I called back after checking this site, and when he asked me for my full name, I asked him for his. The non english speaking gentleman stated his name was John Burton, and when I asked what company he said 'the Australian Tax Office'. I laughed, (oops)and said that the Tax Office doesn't answer the phone as he did, and then when he had no response, I said 'so this is
spam? Well, have a nice day', hung up and blocked the number. I'm about to send it through to the Tax Office now. There was a lot of office noise in the background.

Caller: Someone how is submitting a lawsuit again me

Robotic message stating that I need to call them back as someone was organising a Law suit against me. I work in Law and that is not how we notify people.

caller id showed a Perth location ?- NOTHING TO MESSAGE BANK - i let the call ring out . I rang back to say i had a missed call.....the person i spoke to with a "lamb curry" accent claimed to be from the ATO and i had outstanding unpaid tax liabilities - REALLY ? He then went on to say that i would be arrested and have my passport cancelled yada, yada, yada. Total scammers......
