Female with accent from Indian subcontinent claiming she was from "accident investigation department". Said someone from my number had an accident in the last 12 months. Told her she had wrong number and hung up.

Said they were calling from the Accident Department. When I asked more questions about where they were calling from - she hung up! What a surprise

They were trying to say a family member had been in a car accident and were trying to act like an emergency department. Unfortunately for them it was a business phone they called and we don't use cars we use prime movers of which the staff happened to be at base. Beaware!!!

My unlisted number has been called about 5 times over the last few weeks. Tonight was the first call from this number, previous calls were from (02) 4708 3948. Caller had a foreign accent and announced that his name was Peter and said something about a member of our family being involved in a car accident, which is untrue. We told him in no uncertain terms not to call us again. We shall see.

India again, telling me I had an accident and there was compensation waiting to be paid to me. Told her I had no knowledge of an accident and she replied that "someone in your family must have been driving your car who had an accident", and I am calling from the lawyers with money to pay you for the damage. Repeated that no one in the family uses the car......she hung up!

This number has been calling business line and hanging up. It called a third time and I didn’t answer with the usual business greeting. Caller stayed on line and alleges I have been in a car accident and need to pay for the damage I caused.

The typical "Someone at this address has had an accident". This time I just hung up. I believe that the scammers somehow are able to insert an apparent legitimate phone number into their dialing process, these numbers appear to be at random and are able to bypass the private number blocking facility on the phone. However one number was a genuine person whose number had been hijacked by the scammers. This is a big concern. Don't know if it was by accident or a deliberate "payback".
