I checked this number out and it is registered to REPCOL, which sounds like an auto parts place to me. The letter head says bailiffs office but then in small wording baycorp.
Whoever it is is has not listed a street address which is also not a lawful way to conduct a 'business' communication. Either way they are in for a shock because these tactics are lawfully classed as 'demanding money with menaces', extortion and racketeering'. When they threaten to place goods under seizure that is a definite no no.
For everyone's information; if a debt is 'assigned' by a business, the person or company buying the debt (usually for 4-8c in the dollar, certainly no more than 10c in the $) will claim that you now owe them the debt- this is absolutely not true, UNLESS they contacted you prior and told you they were paying off your debt and you agreed that you would pay them back. Otherwise they have done so out of the goodness of their hearts or as a tax write off. An 'assignment of debt' requires all 3 parties to sign all at once, in one meeting place with a single witness to all 3 signatures. Without this there is no debt since it was paid off voluntarily by this new uninvited by you 3rd party!
if they pursue you after that it is harassment and every contact is worth thousands of dollars to you in claims against them. Not to mention the breach of privacy act where the person you had the original contract with has given your information to a 3rd party without your consent (in most cases, except some financial contracts) Even the police or courts are bound by the information privacy act, so any magistrate who signs off on a bailiff order is doing so unlawfully and in direct contradiction to their oath of office.
Read up people and learn your rights- lets take back our law system.

Your right Baycorp are a debt collection agency. But they are also privately contracted bailiffs officers employed by the WA Government, serving court documents, seizure orders and other civil matters. They also deal with some criminal court fine matters aswell, once it reaches the Warrant of Execution stage.

Baycorp are not the bailiff.
They are debt collectors.
I do not believe you have any responsibility to call them or assist them.
I believe it will never be in your interests to talk to them or return their call.
I believe the majority of the reviews here suggesting that you call are posted by Baycorp themselves, or their affiliates.
If they ask you for your details, I do not believe you have any obligation to call them.
If you do give them your details, they may be able to keep them, use them or sell them on to other organisations.
Be data smart. Keep your private information private.

They must have services other than debt collection. They called me in order to arrange a time for me to be home to receive documents from the Family Court. It is a document that the judge wants to make sure I see before the next court date. Not due to fines/owing money.

This was a call from Baycorp, an outstanding infringements recoveries agency operating on behalf of the Fines Enforcement Registry. This call would have been related to an outstanding debt owed to the state. Often, these calls will be for you. However, if you don't owe any money and still receive a call, it can be in relation to some actionable information that may lead to someone who does owe money, so it's best to play along and provide any information you can.

you potentially just got phished out of your date of birth, I would keep a close eye on your credit card/bank statements for anything unusual.

GM

caller said my full name and asked if that was me, then asked me for my birth date to confirm I was that person.  Then said that I was not the person that they were looking for.  I did not catch the name of the organisation.  Is it a scam or not?

RADAR
