I was told by a nice girl who signed me up for this that i would be able to pick the amount of tickets that i wanted to buy and that they would ring when they have a prize raffle on offer to confirm the purchase. Also that i had a cooling off period in which that would call me to confirm before taking any money out. I was never called before they took money out also the raffle wasnt til the end of feb n they took money at start of jan and feb. i only signed up cuz i thought the money was to to help sick babies. I now know the truth i appreciate everybody who has commented here to show me these guys are just greedy money hungry crooks who take money from anybody they can. I will be putting a stop to my donations immediately

Hey Paul, I think "Pete" might be blowing another trumpet by now, probably under a different name.

Oh Dear Pete. Nov 02/2012.
I hope your understanding of the word of Jesus is better than your understanding of the English language.
I give to the Mater because every sick child deserves the right to a long life.
Considering you are quoting the word of Jesus surprises me especially when you are casting stones at people , blaming minority's, and being angry.
I thought the bible was about loving your neighbor, turning the other cheek and treating others as you want to be treated.
Why is it that you are so insecure that you lash out at everybody else?
Is it because you can't afford to give?
Or is it because you think you are above everyone else.
Have a good look at yourself in the mirror before you make assumptions about everyone else.
God bless and go in peace

Now that was not very Christian...maybe you need to read the Word more and find out that as Christians we are not supposed to be judgemental, only God has that right.

I use to avoid picking up the phone if any number wasn't on my contacts list but now...I have practiced standard, kind and courteous responses rather than have a guilty [or cranky?] reaction. After all the caller is just doing their job wanting to support their family and I don't need to add to their woes.

I state, "I really would love to help you but I can't at this point in time."

or "I donated to *insert the charity here* two months ago, call me again next year."

or "I have many demands on my charity dollars and I have chosen to support *insert chosen charity/s here* this year."

or "I have an annual donation budget and I have reached my limit, so sorry I can't help at this point."...I use this close to Christmas as I have usually exceeded my budget by then.

or "I can see I have already given you some help this year. Could you please record it on the data base that I have opted to donate to most charities only once a year and would appreciate only that one call."

I feel much better being in control of the call, and being nice to the caller is no real hardship once I realised I felt angry as a cover for the I guilt that I couldn't help.

The Mater does an amazing job, but don't confuse them with the marketing company they've employed to do their fundraising. I'm sure if concerns were made to the Mater directly there would be action. A lot of telemarketing is coming from 0755 numbers, probably one company handling several clients, with workers from home. I give to Mater and World Vision. That's all we can handle with four kids. If saying no does not stop the calls, frustration does happen. The marketing company needs to be taken to task as inevitably they will lose funds for Mater, obviously not reaching targets if they're harassing regular buyers for additional tickets.

Yes I have had this phone call from (07) 5668 0854 too. And yes I used to buy tickets but since being on the pension can no longer afford it. I asked them to remove me from their database but to no avail. I have blocked so many different numbers from four different states from telemarketers. Grrrr.

To Pete,
I volunteer for the salvos, I put coins in collection boxes regularly, I donate to door knock appeals and I buy Salvo "Wishes" to buy socks, gloves and blankets to the homeless, I revceive NO government payments or senior discounts or family payments..so Why the actual F@&k is it ok to continually ring me at tea time and abuse me when I ask them to not call?? You are a Keyboard Worrier and a Troll...

Yes I too donate $30 per draw and am happy to do so at the moment but I don't need to be rung 3 times a day to offer me special offers to spend more money. I have already made a commitment - don't need to be hassled more. Thinking about cancelling my contribution just to stop their annoying calls!!

This crowd phone me just about daily both on landline & mobile - I NEVER answer calls from numbers I don't recognise - this has been going on for months - you'd think they would get the message that I don't want to talk to them. Assume it is a charity.
