Barbara - Qld

Caller type: Scam call
Location: Australia
Caller: Automated female voice

Call received on mobile, it was a female automated voice calling herself Amanda and saying they needed more details about an accident I had. She went on to say to press 1 or 2 for various things, to which I just listened and didn't proceed as this is just another scam (that has restarted yet again). This time round though, they are using Australian voices not foreign as most other times. Please be careful everyone.

My sister and brother in law lost their 22 year old son in an accident 18 months ago and their loss is absolutely devastating. Yesterday the lowlifes who work at this company called my sister and started asking her questions about her sons accident, when was it, what were his injuries etc, if she had a lawyer, to see if they could help with a claim?? They even asked her if she was in the car when he had the accident?? She told them no and that he died instantly, thinking the call was something to do with the recent coroners report they only received last week, the caller didn’t know what to do and said he’d speak to his supervisor then made up some lie about being the wrong department and said sorry for your loss. I am absolutely f*cking disgusted that a) these scammers had this personal information on my family b) that ANYONE! Could do this for a job and get paid for it and actually have no conscience c) that these scumbags haven’t been caught and shut down. They are obviously targeting people who have had serious accident/deaths in the family trying to prey on the vulnerable and it’s absolutely disgusting, shame on anyone that works there.

They call you then they hang up immediately to let the machine leave you a voice mail message to lure you into their scam, so don't response to their message as well as their call.

Caller: Automated voice = Amanda

I received this call just now, I don’t usually answer unknown numbers but I was expecting an important call so I did answer it because I saw the call was coming from Brisbane and heard this female automated voice and introduced her self as AMANDA. Same details talking about accidents and asked to press either 1 or 2. Then I just hung up strait away. This is definitely a SCAM. Hopefully, no one becomes a victim. Don’t discuss anything, especially your personal details on the phone if you are unsure who you are talking to. If in doubt, always hung up. If it’s legitimate call then they will find other ways to contact you. But, If you ever get to talk to someone be sure you are the one asking questions to them not them to you. Anyone knows where we should report this number? They should be reported asap please. I wonder how these sacmmers even got our numbers in the first place?

I was silly enough to press 2 to have my number removed from their database then they immediately hung up. Have I been hacked and does anyone know what might happen now

Good advice Tony.
Even before I read your post, I got in to a deep and meaningful conversation with the caller.
I told her I had four daughters (fib), and each had their own car with one being a P-plater, and being a responsible Dad, I let them choose their own car insurance with me as guarantor.
If she could tell me the Make, Model and Registration, I will get the relevant daughter to return her (the caller's) call.
I also said I would have a stern "talking to" the daughter about not telling me about the accident.
I did not let the caller get a word in edgeways.
The call lasted about eight minutes. There was a long pause and then she hung up.

As noted before by Barbara, I received an automated call and pressed 1 for fun. I told them I had 3 accidents. The UK male I spoke with was very interested and asked about my last accident, which I said happened last week. I insisted that I see them in person as I didn't want to get myself in trouble with the law and would go to see them at their office. He refuse3d to tell me where they operated from, but eventually said they were in postcode 4036,(Bald Hills). I kept asking questions about the buildings there and eventually he hung up. So, my suggestion if you have 5 minutes or so is to string them along and waste their time.
