Lyon Finance are not very nice make sure you know your rights in relation to the debt ie making sure its not statute barred (6yrs without a court judgement) call the Consumer Credit Legal Centre NSW for free legal advice their credit and debt hotline is 1800 007 007 and they are very helpful drafting emails to send debt collectors and government agencies if they overstep the line they will also contact the government bodies and put complaints in to make Lyon Finance stick to the law.

To the supposedly old lady who had her debt written off - NICE TRY LION - big bullsh*t. Don't give out personal details for yourself or anyone else. Deny the debt, give false dob (but remember it as they will try to trick you by asking for it a second time), lie about where you lived and what debts you may have had. If you don't have any assets, go bankrupt - not the end of the world.

Lion finance has taked over a debt from GE. They have harassed me every week for three years. Including contacting my work place. Now they have got a lawyer to sent me a letter threatening me with court and demanding I fill out their forms. Can anyone advise.

Lion Finance have been phoning me since 2006/7 regarding a debt they bought from GE. Due to many circumstances I couldn't pay the debt. Lion Finance took out a court judgement on me (without my knowledge) - this is no longer on my credit file but I can't believe it Lion Finance are still phoning or sending me SMS's to call them leaving me a reference number.
I thought once it came off your credit file that was it - my concern is that they take out another court judgement on me and I could have bad credit forever.
And the phone calls for nearly 8 years are taking its toll.

My husband and I keep getting phone calls from this number about one of my sons. My son has not lived at home for the past 10 years and certainly has not given out our telephone number. The people that call, "Adam and Nelson" keep asking questions about his location and his telephone number. As my son is 41 years of age, I do not have access to his personal business and I would like this company to stop phoning and harassing us.

If Lion Finance has bought an alleged bad debt from GE then it's their bad luck. Your alleged debt may have been with another company...but if they sell it off there is no contract anymore. Lion finance does not have a contract with anyone until they volunteer info or fill out their unlawful forms (trickery). I have not done it...and I never will - NO CONTRACT -NO OBLIGATION, BY LAW THEY ARE A THIRD PARTY INTERLOPER- ALL law is contract law. I never identify myself to anybody therefore I am not contracting with them and I uphold my common law rights by writing that I do not consent and after that I return any mail . I recommend everybody look up their common law right's and stop the unwanted calls. Truthology is a good place to start.

I am going bankrupt.
They just wont quit.
Even wanted me to enter into a part 9 which means pay yhe debt or partial debt off over time.

I told them buckleys chance because that is a form of bankruptcy anyway!

They don't recommend there clients go bankrupt.
What a laugh. ..
Thats because they get nothing.

The guy I spoke with was pushy but told him to piss off.

Once I have bankruptcy number I will shove it down his throat and no more phone calls from them because its illeagal to call a bankrupt person after money.

Sadly, your situation is highly uncommon. Their first tactic is to get you to acknowledge the debt - that way the statute of limitations resets to zero and they have another six years to pursue you. Then they will insist on a payment plan, no matter how small. Every payment resets the statute to zero. Then they keep calling, asking for higher and higher payments. They will even petition you for bankruptcy (even though you may still be solvent due to your assets). Many financial planners will tell you to simply ignore them. Note that if they do take you to court in a civil case you have to abide by the verdict - otherwise it's classed as contempt of court, a criminal charge.

Called them back today and they were very helpful, searched my phone number and name and came up with nothing, suggested someone has used me for a reference. Only asked for my name to search and that's it. Said they leave a message after the first call if they cant get you.

Debts under $5k (used to be $2k) are unenforceable i.e. you cannot be made bankrupt for them. Also worth noting that a debt is deemed stale if over 6 years old and no payments have been made during the 6 years. Stale debt has conditions so it's worth reading up on - these may be reasons why a credit collection co will write off your debt. These companies are a business they buy debt for pennies and chase the dollars - very easy to make 100-200% on their money hence the sometimes aggressive calls.

I got a call from this number today and they asked me if I a resident of a street I lived on 10 years ago. When I said that I did live there years ago he said he got my number from the white pages and was looking for someone (I missed the name and didn't recognize it anyway) and then the guy asked me to confirm what unit number I lived in. I just said I can't help you, I lived there 10 years ago and can't remember anything.

I get suspicious when random people call me asking about a place I haven't lived in 10 years!!

I understand that you are all weary of lion finance but I got a call from the this number and after explaining that I didn't want to give my personal info out the lady on the phone was lovely she advised me that she does have all my details wich is how she contatcted me but due to privacy she cant give any info out to me until I confirme my details she then went on to explain that what if someone had picked up my phone and was just claiming to be me and could get me into a lot of trouble and if my number has been reused and allocated to someone else she said she wouldn't like someone giving out information of my debt and details to someone that isn't me, she then advised me she can read a legally binding privacy script to me if ide like, I then said would you give me your personal information if I asked she then said her name was logan francis and shes 21 this year and lives in Brisbane we both had a little chuckle about it and after her explaining that even if I confirm just me address with her she will send me a letter straight away advising of the matter and informed me that they do source information from third parties no personal information is given out only names and queries if the third party knows them, I understood everything she was saying and she said to jump on the computer while she was on the phone and just have a look at what we do and what where about , so I did a quick search and they are a legal debt collection company she then said that if I don't feel comfortable then I can ring back in and ask if logan actually works for the company she said she will leave a note on her file saying she authorises people to ask and reception can answer , I thought that she did a great job of explaining to me the issue and the privacy and confirming they are a real company , I did call back in and she does work there and I got transferred to her I thought it was funny that she rememberd me and just like before she asked my id I did give it to her this time after doing my research and she was able to tell me about debt and that they had purchased it from ge money I understood and rememberd then she said they had sent letters but I didn't get them because they were sent to the old po box she said she would send out the letters again to the new address if I wanted I said yes, she did ask me to pay in full wich was $2643.40 I told her that I couldn't cause I wasn't working and haven't been working she understood and asked if I could borrow the amount I said no I have no family left and im to old to get a loan she was very understanding to this to which she offerd me an arrangement to psy in instalmets small payments I told her that I get the pension but it goes to medical bills she then asked the reason for the medical bills and I told her I was diagnosed with cancer she then said that she empathises with the situation and to send lion finace the medical certificate stating just that and she will work out the rest I got the details and that was the end of the call .................I got a letter some time later after sending them my documents staeting that lion finace wouldn't persue my debt because of my situation and will wright it off .I was shocked so I called them again did the id process again and got logan she told me what had happened and explained that they are an ethical company and don't want to persue a sick elderly women I thanked her and she told me that it was the best she could do although it will stay on my crdit file I was just amazed at this young lady had put so much effort and time into me not get any money at all and she was still lovely and polite and told me she hopes everything works out she said if she could give me her direct line she would because she rememberd I had no family left she would have let me call in and let her know how shes going I started cry and she apolised and said she would have to go now but if I needed anything there are always people out there I can talk to ......... I think that this company has gone above and beyond for people and if your having issues with them its because your being pig headed and rude they are trying to help us as well as them and if you have a debt and cant pay then just tell them they will come up with a solution .........thank you logan from Brisbane you have been a great relief :)

I received a call from this number today. Asked to confirm my full name and DOB. I hate my self because I have blindly given my info to the lady - after which she said she's got the wrong person. How did she managed to get hold of my number - that I don't know. Perhaps will need to ask fair trading and telco ombudsman about the way these people retrieve personal information - it's a sort of invasion and violation of privacy.

I had been avoiding calls from this QLD based number as I don't know anyone in QLD. This morning they caught me off guard and I answered the phone.

They are from Lion Finance Pty Ltd a subsidiary of Collection House (Google it). They buy debts from other companies and then attempt to collect payment. If they have been unable to catch up with the debtor, one of their ploys is to ring around people with the same name in an attempt to catch them. Apparently there is someone with the exact same name as me, but a different DOB who also had an address in the city I live in (but a different suburb). The woman said - "I think I have the wrong Mr. S" after I confirmed my DOB. Hopefully they'll stop ringing now.

They claim to be Lion Finance. They ring me at least once a day, Monday to Friday. I answered it once and had a pushy Gen Y girl ask me to confirm my name and date of birth. I did not but instead asked why she was calling as I have NO outstanding debts to anyone. She insisted I did but would give no further information. She mentioned an address that I had 5 years ago. They are just scammers, I believe! Beware :-(
