In an spam SMS sent by Kogan.com, they provided this mobile number for you to SMS "OUT" to if you want to opt OUT of SMS spam that you never opted IN for in the first place.

I've reported the spam to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for possible future prosecution by forwarding the SMS to 0429 999 888. That's all you have to do to report it. Please consider doing the same if you have received SMS spam including this number.

Same happened to me as Anonymous. I did once get a Kogan SIM chip sent to me - maybe that's how my number was known, BUT with only Kogan on the top of the message, there's no way to find out the number used. It could be anyone. I looked up the ACMA SMS number and they DO tell you to forward the message to 0429 999 888 (normal SMS rates apply for your phone provider). This could be just a working mobile number Phishing scam, dunno.

It's great to opt out of messages that were not subscribed to, then get more messages from the same company barely 6 weeks later. Good job Kogan, I will never buy anything I'm aware that you are selling.

Don't think it is Kogan. Looks like aphishing scam. I. E. Deal looks too good to be true, so you click on link provided to find out more. Then either malware is copied to your device or it'll ask you to register and give away sensitive data. Using the Kogan name is just part of the scammers trick

Kogan again. I always text 'N' to the number they provide 0476 857 073) but it doesn't work. As someone mentioned, I have now reported to ACMA (online report) and also to the ACMA Spam Report number of 0429 999 888.

I have never shopped at Kogan, so I don't know how they got my number which is on the don't call register. I almost texted back to opt out, but decided to check the number first.
Forwarded the message to ACMA

I'm the original poster about this phone number. Here are some details that I should have put in my original post.

The SMS addressed me by name, so that heightened the possibility that it's come from someone whom I've previously dealt with.

I visited the link (goo.gl/HaQ2m7) using a virtual machine (VM) running on my desktop PC. I wouldn't do it on my "real" PC or on my phone; using a VM is the safe way to check out things like this. It brings up a page from Kogan's site, and the HTTPS connection is certified by DigiCert to be Kogan.com. It doesn't appear to be a phishing attempt to me, and I have no reason to think that it's anything other than Kogan spamming.

Confirming the above, I received the same text today and I never opted in for this. I haven't made any purchases from Kogan for a long time.

In addition, I replied with "OUT" though received no response or confirmation that the opt-out has been processed.

I have also forwarded this message to the ACMA number.
