This bloke ripped me off $1000 dollars from a add on gumtree where I wanted to buy a 4 wheeler motor claimed his name was Kane kearns and was from shepparton! I'll kill him when I find him! And that's not if it's when!

This guy scammed me to for 1000. Pretended he was his daughter.
Luckily I realized and called the bank to cancel transaction.
Surely more can be done about this !

This guy is trying to scam me right now. Asking for $460 for a ticket. phone number is 0499 653 324, saying his name is Rachel Cowley.. even made a fake ID for her and sent it to my email address. Lucky I noticed the email came from a Kane Kearns?? Googled his name and glad I did!! Gave me his bank details and even asking for a receipt!! What a jerk

I have just been scammed by this Kane Kear scumbag!! I wired $400 to him for a bmw engine, he said he was moving home and needed the gone asap. He said if I wired him money then he'd send the engine to be delivered to my door! Stupidity played a part on my behalf, but I thought $400 for an engine was a bargain. BEWARE if KANE KEAR !!!!!!

If this creep works at Gumtree I find it hard to believe they don't know what he's doing

Guys, I ran a check and found that this guy works at Gumtree. His real name is not Matthew Cope. He used fake information to make that account.

I had an advertisement up and he contacted me asking me to wire him money.

He also goes under other names like Rand and Harold, and because he works at Gumtree his ads are either never taken down, and he has the power to contact everyone in large numbers without doing verification.

I have filed a police report and they are investigating. He has made millions running this scam.

Wish I'd come across this before :(. Kane scammed me $500 for an AFL Grand Final ticket. Haven't had time to look into retrieval of funds until today and have contacted my bank etc. Not sure what other avenues can be made?

Hey guys, just a piece of helpful info (I hope).
It's probably best never to send money via bank transfer or cash deposit to people you don't know, as the chances of getting the money back (if it is a scam) are slim to none. Even Gumtree themselves advise of meeting in person.
The Police cannot assist as it is a civil matter not a criminal one - since the money wasn't stolen, it was willingly transferred.
A good thing I learnt, as you probably have too, is to always do a quick google search of names or numbers to find things like this. It's also good to add the word 'scam' to the end of the search & anything related will pop up.
Remember - if things seem too good to be true, they most probably are!

ALSO - If you're willing to, the best chance would be to go to the Small Claims Tribunal to create a civil case. Pretty sure their fees are like $40 or something to take up the case. Peanuts for getting a few hundred back.
