Just had the same type of call from 0421 269 367...from so called Reece Debney about my car for sale. said he was from NT

I too have had an email. This is what it reads: Thanks a lot for the email. I'm away at sea at the moment, and we are presently offshore in New Zealand on project. We do not have access to phone at the moment, it's 15days off and 15days on,which is why I contacted you with internet messaging facility. Where is it located at the moment?




What's the present condition?final asking price?how many owners has it had?does it need anything to be replace or repair??has it ever been in a crash?When last do you service it? I won't be able to come for the inspection due to the nature of my work and i would have called but our calling is restricted and i want it delivered before my arrival..Regarding the payment, I can pay you through direct bank deposit (EFT),using PayPal instant bank wire transfer service.I will need your Account name,BSB and Account number. I just got him too. Exact same message as "at sea". I googled him coz it sounded wrong. Thanks everyone for your advice. I'm sure you've saved me a world of problems. Why do people do this? anyway, again many thanks. Oh, No is 0407 138 471.

Got the same message today from an ad I posted on carsales.com a few days ago. He responded by email with the exact same spiel as in the post above.

His email:

Interestingly, there is a Reece Debney from the NT who was involved in a serious motorcycle accident a year ago August 2014 (google). Not sure if this bloke passed away and someone is using his identity??

telephone no. he messaged on was 0427 767 712 however like you i provided bank details now there is a sum of money waiting at paypal apparently for me but he won't provide personal details for me to issue a receipt in his name etc so i am going to request that he provide this information and that without it i would cancel the sale also heard that paypal don't hold money so will have to ring them if this is the scam that everyone says it is it is quite a hoax and i will forward all emails to the authorities i think. as for your bank account i would recommend that you close your account even if it is an inconvenience that way no one. can access your account unless you want to put a stop on it which is also possible

Same here yesterday. This looks like some sort of "phasing scam" - they must troll the carsales ads and then try to catch you out. Thank for the posts.

Yep I've just had the sms followed up by an email. Mobile number used is 0427 767 709.
I'm trying to sell a car via carsales.

Also noticed that Reece Debney had a life threatening motor bike accident in April 2014.

I received this exact same email, "at sea" and all, unfortunately i made the mistake of sending him my bank details, I was in haste to sell my car that I overlooked the obvious scam. Any suggestions as to what should I do with my bank details now?

Got same message from Reece Debney, this time from 0417 461 879.

I had the same guy - Reece Debney last night after I posted a car for sale

he is now on mobile 0407 653 682 and email recedebney @ hotmail.com. Hope the police catch him
