They are still going. Today I received the same message from this number to call the same 1300 number for D&B. We need to all report this so the phone companies and authorities can cancel these numbers and eliminate the fraudsters.

They told me they were working on behalf of the ATO [wrong choice as I have worked for the ATO over 25 years] I confirmed no ATO interest in me. The ATO took a report and said if enough complain they will investigate.

These scammers argue very convincingly that the privacy act prevents them from telling you anything. This is a lie. The privacy act is there to protect you. You should always get their name, id, The legal authority that allows them to ask you for personal information and the identity and contact details of their company. If they refuse to tell you you just tell them to go find the inner peace inside their anus.

DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED. THE REAL PEOPLE MUST MAINTAIN PROFESSIONALISM AND ABIDE BY THE LAW. THEY MUST BE ABLE TO SHOW YOU THEIR POWER UNDER THE LAW AND DESCRIBE YOUR PROTECTIONS AND REMEDIES UNDER THE LAW.

I just got the same fishy text and looked it up online immediately. Thanks to everyone for your posts. I'm now just debating whether to ring them up and shame the sweat shop caller or just ignore.

I received a text message today and was advised to call the 1300 number for Dun & Bradstreet to discuss an important matter and to quote a number they'd sent. Instead of phoning the 1300 number they'd sent, I phoned Dun & Bradstreet's website number and gave a gentleman my information. Dun & Bradstreet had no record of me on their system! He told me to disregard the text message.

This morning I got call from (02) 9191 9379 and I didn't pick up because the mobile number I hold which is never been used, (I am using this phone number for calling my family internationally only), 6 hours later, I got message from 0488 822 474 who said: " Please call 1300 663 834 immediately to discuss an important matter. Quote 91394368 when you call. Thank you, Dun & Bradstreet" . I am sure this is fraud, because the mobile number be called has never been used as Australia domestically, how can they get any quote for me.

A debt collection service like dun and Bradstreet can not, and are not permitted at law, to call you more than 3 times in a week (or 10 times in the same month) in any state or territory in Australia.

The government authorities and ombudsmen will help you.

It is a proven, quick and easy stop.

Got the same text message but folks this isn't a scam. They are a legitimate debt collection company who do debt collection for telecommunication companies and go via just to name a few. I rang Dun and Bradstreet directly, from the number on their website. They said that they do send text messages out and my quote number was legitimate. They told me who the debt was with, had all of my details and even knew when I gave them a fake address. They advised that I contact the company to discuss the issue which I did and it turned out to be an error on their behalf which has been rectified. At no point did they request money, just told me how much the debt was for and suggested that I contact the company concerned.
So I would advise you to do a search and find the company number and contact them directly rather than any number in a text message.

I also received an sms from 0488 822 474 who said: "Hi, {first name only}, please call Dun & Bradstreet on 1300 663 834 to discuss an important matter. Please quote XXXXXXXX when you call. Thank you"
If this is D&B, then they need to advertise on their website that they sms as their first point of contact with their clients. One would think they would ring and post letters to the client first as this is very unprofessional. Otherwise from what the other's have written, this is a scam.

I received the same text but when I called back they didn’t even ask me for any personal information, they just said the text was mistakenly sent to me! How do they know that if I didn’t give them my name?

I just got one of these text messages:
Please call 1300 663 834 immediately to discuss an important matter. Quote 91299692 when you call. Thank you, Dun & Bradstreet.
Immediately googled the number and found these threads.
Thanks for the clarification of a scam
