As per the above thread I was initially contacted by this person through Gumtree. Gave her my bsb/account no but the next email had me concerned - she wanted to send extra to cover courier. The extra was almost 3 times the cost of the item on sale. No sensible person would pay that. I have now blocked her and informed my bank

I was also contacted by Crisafullilopecal @ outlook.com today via Gumtree! Using the same New Zealand script!! Lucky that I googled first before I responded to this person....

We got the first email spinning the same story about being offshore in the oil and gas industry and only having email contact and the spa pool was a gift for his son. No haggling over price. Wanted to pay through PayPal . Then we got this follow up:

Below is the pick up agent bank account details to send the money via Osko payment.

As you are well aware of, due to the nature of my work am away and do not have access to this money transfer, and it can be done online at your bank app or web and will it be ok with you if I add the $1,050aud to the amount I am transferring? and you can help me make the money transfer of the freighting fees through Osko bank transfer? I was selling some Ikea shelves and got a message on GUMTREE asking for my email, then I received this exact email below asking for my banking details- it just sounded a bit too dodgy so I checked to see when the account was created and it was very new 2022 so decided to google the email address and I saw this - so glad I double checked!

Update.... I am the anonymous writer who wrote a comment about being scammed by mark Ladd and max bright. I am very grateful and god has been good to me, they sent the wrong account number so the funds $550 did not go through. I’m playing with them a bit as they give random accounts to send money to and promising to buy the couch, but I called to thanks skrill and the scammers did not receive a cent. I love you God. Everyone please be careful.
Signs to look out for:
- They only want email contact and will never give out phone number or don’t want to meet on Skype or zoom.
- very demanding: Always asking have you Sent the money?
- in the PayPal invoice they sent you, there’s spelling errors and both the men sent me PayPal Invoices through Their email. It never came from PayPal but was always sent from mark Ladd and max bright.
- after you sent them money, they make up an excuse and tell you to send more money. The scammers told me, if you aren’t willing to pay more money for the courier archive, you won’t get the money that’s on hold by PayPal and we won’t collect your lounge.
Remember everyone; money in account first- then sell your Couch and arrange for the buyer to have their own courier/ freight fees. We work hard And earnestly for our money , unlike scammers that sit around preying on people on sites like gumtree and make their earning sitting in their seats and typing away sending emails.

Yep! Theresa Benson just tried it with me. There was another name that came into the inbox "Theresa & Voney101". So be aware that may be another name the scammer is going under. I did proceed with bsb details, but the next e-mail was requesting shipping costs etc (that was dodgy). So I STOPPED everything and the following e-mail appeared

"Hello l have not heard from you since the payment has been made, am worried about this because by now you should have gotten the payment confirmation from PayPal so pls kindly reply back asap."

I did NOT proceed any further regarding payments / credit cards and any further details. Next e-mail received was

"Thanks so much for the help and you can set up an account with Transferwise at https://www.Transferwise.com/au

you choose a recipient get PHP(PHILIPPINES Peso) and click on Get Started to continue

you click on Bank account and click continue

select Bank deposit in bank account and Enter an amount to send $1,150

you enter the receiver bank account details and click next

How would you like to pay you choose any of the option then continue?

So I left it at that obviously not responding to the above e-mail, contacted my bank for advice.
