This Melb number has been calling me all weekend. Now I at least know who the pest is thanks to everybody on this web page. I have just changed providers and moved on from AGL. I quite liked them...... until now!!!

Thanks for the warning. I have terminated AGL owing to an expensive plan and no discounts for the last 15 years or so. So now I know where the mysterious caller on (03) 9999 5840 is from. AGL. If they now want to offer a discount (after all these years) they can go fly a kite :)

Have received relentless amounts of calls from this number including all through the weekend. Flicked AGL as I was not happy with their customer service now they are still harassing me

I have been with AGL for about 6 months and have just started receiving these calls - haven't answered any and they don't leave a message.

Thank to you all for your comments. I wasn't sure who would continuously phone me throughout the day on both my mobile and home landline. I finished with my contract and found a better deal. SMS and phone calls haven't stopped for the last couple of weeks. If it continues I will block and place on the do not call register. Seems the hard sell doesn't always work. Thank goodness for caller ID :)

AGL calling to suck back up to me after burning me with 2,0000.00 domestic power bill, that I disputed and then transferred to Red.

Don't think this is AGL. I'm still with them and got 3 calls in 1 day from (03) 9999 5840 and a txt apparently from AGL saying someone's requesting to transfer my energy. I'm just ignoring it as I know without a contract and my signature, who ever this mystery third party is can't do anything.

I recently start receiving phone calls from this number, 1 to 2 times a day, said that they are calling "on the behalf" of AGL, and asking for my personal detail such as DOB & Address, which is extremely suspicious. I hang up or ignore them since then. when you call this number back it will divert to a voice mail declaring itself as AGL blah blah. Do not be fooled , do not give your personal detail.. call AGL's number to discuss if you have questions.

YES, i did recently opt out from AGL but why is this happening?

I've change from AGL to another supplier. Yesterday I received a text message to contact them regarding changing of account. I contacted AGL & told them the only reason that I moved away I that someone else offered a better deal. They agreed they couldn't better the new deal.

Then today I get calls from (03) 9999 5840 to my mobile & to my landline, it rings once then stops. I rang them back & gave them what for. Any more calls & I'll report them to ACMA as spammers

Yep, terminated an account with AGL as I sold the property (only had the account for a few months while property was vacant ) and sure enough one day later I get three calls. I haven't answered any of them - thanks to the information you have all provided.

Just cancelled our Agl account and have started getting these calls. They never leave a message and today alone they called 3 times on the mobile phone and twice on the home phone. We have never given them our mobile so am not impressed. They never called when we had the account with them to check we were happy, now the calls don't stop.

I received an email, then a call saying I have an enormous AGL bill to pay, 4 years after I had cancelled my service with them.
Years ago, I found out that they didn't cancel my service when I requested; they kept the electricity & gas on in my old apartment (in my name!!!) for ages after - so the next tennants were living off my name!
Once I found out I made complaints, sent them proof of when I'd left the apartment & the calls stopped. Naturally I thought that was sorted, until I started getting contacted again now!
They've obviously sold their debts to an agency who will harass & try to trick us into giving personal details &/or paying these ridiculous "debts".

Are you sure it is even AGL calling ??? How do we know it is really AGL ?
The caller was asking me for my details and didn't even have my correct details.

SMS message from AGL saying that another power company has contacted them and has requested that I transfer to them.... Also a call to my mobile (no message) - however I have never had an electricity account in my name - so I have no idea where they are getting the number to call me. !!

To get rid of them, call AGL and ask to be put through to the Resolution Department so they can change your mobile number to do not call. They will give you a reference number and they say the database will be updated in 24 hrs

They are still calling me after we switched from AGL to Momentum. Likely they only have my mobile and they are now on my reject list so I don't see or hear from them.
