She said she was from a collections agency called Probe, connected to the ATO. After I questioned her relentlessly without confirming my name that she so desperately wanted and why the hell was she calling me on a Saturday after 1:00pm anyway, she gave me a search code to type in at the ATO website, which I duly did.

The page didn't show anything useful except that the company "Probe" are designated collections for the ATO but anyone could get that info. She eventually asked me to get in touch with the ATO anyway, which I won't bother. I mean, why call when they (or the ATO) normally send a letter first, right?

I did notice some talking in the background similar to an office. I did a lookup of the number and the address comes back as 28 Pine St, Hawthorn, VIC., which is a residential street.

Looking further, Probe collections don't have a good reputation but that's as far as I can get.

they left a very unconvincing message saying they were the tax company and I should call them back.

I got the call from the same number to my mobile. Simply block it out! They even try to call from an unknown number. That's terrible!

First caller said he was from the ATO.

Phone cut out.

Second caller said he was from an organisation which worked for the ATO for tax matters. Could not explain what tax matters in any given scenario.

I cut the call from there.

This is just a very bad scam do not answer this number

They are the collection agency falsely saying they work for the tax dept that's a lie. If you google them they have nine.au saying the tax office has given them 20 mil to pursue debt, another scam lie designed to make you feel it's legit. Their simply the a**hole end of Lion finance who on soled the debt that they bought and couldn't recoup!

Claimed they were from Australian Taxation Office and left a message that I should call them back. Tried to make it convincing but failed.
