Ever since I filled in an online competition (I know: stupid me) for a Coles supermarket voucher and despite clicking 'no' to every one of the 'special offers' I have been bombarded with telemarketer calls. Yesterday I received 16! Today in just two hours I have received 7. The bastards started at 9.02: it's illegal for them to call before 9am.
I block every number but after 3 or 4 attempts using that number they simply switch to another one. Annoyingly, my phone's blocking utility doesn't cut them off; rather it sends them straight to my voicemail. Every 3 or 4 hours I have to call my voicemail and delete a dozen or so messages. They don't leave any message: it's either silence or them saying (so far in a very Indian accent), 'hello, hello, hello?" before hanging up.
It's extremely aggravating. I wonder if Coles is aware of what this company is doing: it's certainly giving me an extremely negative opinion of Coles.
Fortunately there is a solution to this I just discovered today: There is a a government register for your phone number:
https://www.donotcall.gov.au
Registration is free and quick. The telemarketers have to check the register before calling and number and if they do call after you've registered, you can lay a complaint against them and they can be fined. The only drawback is that they have up to 30 days from date of registration to comply. So I guess I've got another bloody month of 20 calls a day. bah.

I am currently in London, U.K. This number called my Optus mobile number on international roaming several times last night . Returning the call was of no use as there was no one at the other end. It is definitely a nuisance and at the worst a harassment caller. My Optus number is a silent(no I'd) number. So I wonder how they can access my number, unless Optus itself and other business organisations I have dealt with through my number are complicit in this scam of harassment of people for monetary gains.

You or someone else must have put your mobile number in some competition (scam competition)...probably unwittingly, but you can never know if someone is setting you up as well. They are a scam styled opportunists group selling phone numbers of potential clients and call, based on a call centre IVR and "next call" software and the caller has no idea who they will be talking to or what your intentions are. So it is a cold call and they will never know where the phone number came from.

Phone rang but not long enough for me to answer it. Phoned the number back and there was a bot on the end of the line.

Claim to be from a Melbourne based telemarketing company "Twenty four seven", calling on behalf of Virgin Money. When I asked why they were calling a number on the do not call list they terminated the call.
