(03) 8641 9083 has now called in excess of 20 times today...says from NAB needing to verify a credit card fraud transaction. Wanting me to read out the 6 digit code that has now been sent at least 10 times. I phoned NAB and they said that they would never ask you to read out a 6 digit number IF they call you - that only happens if you phone them directly, in order to verify your ID.

I saw this thread whilst I was on the phone to these people pretending to be NAB and it saved my life!!

Yesterday, a public holiday in Victoria (AUS) I got a txt message from AUSPOST and the text thread had been about my previous orders; Your ASOS order is arriving today- that sort of thing.
I got a text saying someone had tried to reach you but couldn't get through, reschedule the delivery here.
I click the link. I put in my address to redeliver. The next red flag was a small payment of $1.50 for redelivery. I just thought the payment is going out to those working on the public holiday.

Anyway, next day I get a call from these guys saying they're from NAB. A very weird and over the top english accent was the next red flag.

After telling me that my account had been compromised and asking me to confirm in my online banking ACC that I can see the $19.89 withdrawn to a random store- proof that my account was hacked.
They said they've blocked $3000 other attempted transactions because they looked suss because I'm in Vic and the transactions were in Canberra and that's why I couldn't see it on my account?!

After back and forth with them, the person kept putting me on hold to speak to their supervisor and kept saying it was "very rare" and reassuring me that it is fine but they can see that the hacker is in my online banking app- yikes!

But here's the kicker... the fake english dude says, "Ok, Bridget, what we're going to do is to set up a divergent account so they cant access your funds. You will need to put in my supervisor's name for security reasons so they think it is not your account."

I said "datz weird....datz suspicious" and put the number in Google, found this thread and hung up.

Called NAB they cancelled that card and gave me a lecture on online safety.

Caller: Said from Comm Bank

Got a call from this number telling that he was from Comm Bank fraud department. Keep asking to verify details but the amount mentioned keeps changing as there were 2 persons on the line. Asked where this call came from and was told Sydney but prefix from Victoria. Probably these scammers hijacked the number for their own gains. They hung up immediately after telling than they were scammers.

Second call for the day pretending to be from the NAB regarding credit card fraud. Man with British accent said I had 3 fraud transaction on my account and he would fix it all for me. I played along for a while giving him false information and he asked if I had received any txts or emails saying a parcel couldnt be delivered unless a small fee was paid. I said yes I had and I paid the fee and the parcel was delivered. I told him I received a big pot of gold from a Nigerian Prince. He said either it was a big co-incidence or I wasn't taking him seriously! I said I always take scammers seriously. He said what makes you think I'm a scammer? I said You are pretty famous here in Australia with your credit card fraud scam and that everyone knows about it. He said How? I said its all over the news and the internet and that he was a very handsome young Nigerian man with a sexy voice and a British accent, possibly located in Malaysia. At this point he was speechless. When he found his voice he said Can you do me a favor? Predicting what would come next, I said NO and hung up!

Had this call from NAB saying my account compromised and said transactions had been cancelled. An man with an English Accent. He wanted to verify my bank account by asking me of my balances. I gave fake balances to test him and he said yep that's all verified, so then I knew it is a scammer. I then told him such and said if your with my bank, can you tell me bank balances? He couldn't do so and hung up. He has my details though and said something about auspost mail redirection fee of $1. Was glad to cotton on to this but not happy my details are floating around out there.

Pretty sure I was being targeted by a very slick scam. This was the third number (03) 9123 1017 & (02) 9071 02690 that called me in quick succession advising my account had been hacked and the NAB fraud team were calling on the suspicion of dodgy transactions.
Cultured English accents. The callers were very suave in advising they hadn't asked for my details. They also knew I had been hacked earlier in the year and advised the type of hack that I had experienced.
I got super suspicious when they told me my address BUT I have moved and had legitimately changed my address with NAB. They also said they were suspending my account and i needed to give them account details to confirm it was me.
Ironically, it was their suggestion I check the number from which they were calling!
The first scam was sneaky but this follow-up scam where they gave details on what had happened is very clever. I think there will be people getting caught.

Caller: Claiming to be NAB

A Birmingham accent, claiming to be from NAB telling me I had potential fraudulent activity on my account given the different locations, but they had stopped the transactions. I googled this number when on the phone and saw this thread. He was asking me to check my texts to see if I had received a text from Medicare about Covid tests. I told him I'd googled the number and I know you are trying to scam me. He claimed that this was a verified NAB number and if I googled it it would show. I hung up at this point and haven't received a call back.

Caller: Scammer using NAB's official number

Summary:**Scammers hijacked AusPost's and NAB's official text numbers + emails; tried to talk me into transferring all my money into a new NAB account** Please note if you have been contacted for suspicious account activity, the only way to verify is to HANG UP, then CALL NAB YOURSELF. Do not trust messages even if they are from official numbers/ email accounts - they can be hijacked.

Situation: I ordered a product on Catch last night at 11pm, got a text and email from AusPost (official number) that I needed to transfer an additional $1.50 to re-schedule a delivery. I put in my credit card details and paid, however no transaction was indicated on my online banking account. I got multiple calls from NAB's official number ((03) 8641 9083). Like a previous post has mentioned, this guy had a strong ENGLISH ACCENT. He said that there has been suspicious activity, and went on to give me a 2 min lecture on phishing scams, and that I should have checked if the AusPost link sent to me was actually official. He asked for my total bank account balance to "verify" my identity (RED FLAG!).

Then, he ran a 2 minute "scan" of my account, and told me that NAB has frozen the account, and they'd be sending me a new card soon. He said we can do a complete transfer of your money + transaction history onto my new account via online banking. Instructed me to raise my transfer limit, and then transfer my account to a new BSB + Account Number. He said I could only access my account after all the transfers of money+data has been completed (RED FLAG 2!). After the first transfer (for 'verification'), he tried to get me transfer the rest of the money (RED FLAG 3!. Tried to tell me that even if I went to the branch to verify myself, they would run me through the same process. Luckily I followed my instincts, hung up and went to an NAB branch + called NAB's fraud team. Turns out he was a total scam.

Mr scammer, SHAME on you, taking people's hard earned money like that. Get a proper job.
