I have also been contacted by this group and they have been calling at 8.10pm and 9 pm at night. I can't get any information out of them and according to them they sent me a letter that I have not received. They are very rude. I will not give any personal information out if they are based out of the country. I have been caught once before and as I see it now if they are a Debt collector then they should my address and phone number why should I have to confirm this to someone I don't know. Be careful

I am similar to Rosie above. I too have had multiple calls from some Indian (could be Phillipino but sounds Indian to me) bloke claiming to be from Probe. I don't know their phone number as its always blocked from seeing who is phoning, but the guy has given me a 1300 number to contact him on. It was over a fairly large fine for late-lodgement of GST BAS. They do have some details of mine as they know my postal address and the name on my Partnership return. I told them I would look into the matter and discuss it with the ATO. The "Probe" bloke told me to return the call in a week and to have my ABN, tax file number and address on hand as I needed it for identity. I laughed and told the guy to p*ss off as it sounded like a scam to me. They have persistently called me since. They gave me a 1300 number to ring claiming it was the ATO Hardship and Payments line. I rang the ATO who know nothing about this company or the phone numbers. I told this "Probe" bloke to go away as I do not handle such sensitive matters over the phone and I would deal only with the ATO on their phone numbers. They still ring me once every 2-3 weeks but I just refuse to talk to them over the phone. Wish they would give up.

TOTAL FRAUDULENT SCAM AS AT 21 8 2015. They cited my abn and referred to a real debt from months ago, and stupidly i gave them my tax file no etc! lols. I had coincidentally had contact from the deadly serious ATO three days before about a debt I had in fact paid into the wrong account.... which given how terrifying they can be, explained why i was so weak and accommodating with PROBE, partly because some people here say the debts were real. THE 'DEBTS' ARE NOT REAL EVERYBODY!!!! ATO said definitely they did not recognise PROBE or use their services and it was a total scam. I have now got extra protection on my ATO account through their fraud section. Probe is a total lie. The probe girl was so nice though! and could list previous addresses and everything! I was completely hacked and then hoodwinked. I'll let you know what Probe come up with next. But no, its a total scam.

My situation was similar to Clancey, in regards to my auto top up off my credit card had stopped working due to the credit card going past expiry. They don't let you know, so if you don't call them and continue to use tolls, they send it off to the debt collectors. I called Queesnland Motor Ways after reading Clancey's comment and fixed up the account directly with them. They were quick to answer the phone and said they would contact the debt collection agency. When they left messages it always showed as a "Private" number but the message they left said to call the 03 number (from Brisbane) which seemed like a scam to begin with. They didn't identify themselves or who they were working on behalf of and the messages were really hard to understand due to there asian accent. With modern scams going around I'm not sure I would trust any debt collection company chasing up bills, it would be difficult to know if there legit, so best to call the place they say the bill is in regards to and pay them directly. I think Queensland Transport should review this practice.

Hello,

Just wanted to post a warning for others who may in future be contacted by Probe Group.

We have received several calls from blocked numbers but finally had a message left on our phone asking us to call (03) 8370 2320. We followed up, the operator continually asked for our personal information – but would not divulge any information regarding the nature of the call and why they needed our details.

Given the current climate of identity theft, scams and fraud, why any organisation would expect people to freely offer information without any explanation baffles me. The operators admitted to being based in the Philippines. They also stated that 'the ACCC prevents them, by law, from divulging any information regarding their business operation'. However, upon further investigation, we discovered the company has a website, an Australian 1300 number and clearly lists all of their business operations on the website. When I called the 1300 number in business hours I asked, 'can you tell me what your business does?', the operator instantly replied, 'we're a debt collection company'. So they obviously have different policies for potential business customers as opposed to those they are chasing for payment of a debt.

As much as I hate to admit this, they are a legitimate company and are not trying to scam people – but the way in which they handle these matters is appalling. I don't see their practices as being effective for their business customers. I don't know if they buy the debt and chase the funds themselves or if they simply try to recover the money for their business customers – but in any case they are still pathetic and I would advise others to investigate the matter further themselves.

There is not a lot of information on the net for people who have had similar experiences. I have been so infuriated by this company's practices that I feel impelled to let others know what they are about. So if you have been asked to call (03) 8370 2320 (a Melbourne local number which diverts to the Philippines call centre), you'll know what to expect.

Obviously this all could have been avoided had we received the original paper bill and paid it on the due date – but it's life I guess!

Good luck!

Daughter recently had a phone call from Probe stating she owed money from Origin energy.and they had the bill from Origin and wanted payment. Call to origin who said
they had the bill there, that had already been thru the ombudmans dept due to overcharging and denied selling the bill. Then comes in the post a letter from Probes lawyer asking for the amount also. Theres only one thing wrong with this all 3 Origin, probe & probes lawyers wanted the money paid into BPay with 3 different ref numbers. The lawyer has threatened court action. I am worried that because none of these people or companies are Australian owned and the Govt has no control over these people that company like origin can sell peoples private details that will lead to overseas identity theft of a very sinister nature that could affect national security. one day. THere has been 26 calls today now blocked from the phillipines today alone. Thats desperate. tactics but it will be met with like Oh when the next illegals try to come in make sure they get the hair colour right she changes it quite often !!!

This is the most annoying number in the history of the earth.

I had an overdue AGL account as I wasn't getting the bills posted to the correct address - it got transferred over to this group - but as they leave computer operated messages and leave voicemails telling me to contact the "probe group" i assume it is just Marketing and do not respond. Had they mentioned any reference to AGL and an overdue bill i would have sorted it out .

Even when i picked up their call and they said probe group - I asked them what it was in regards to and a very rude lady refused to answer until i told her i was not going to tell her my name until she told me what the call was in regards to.

To give away information like name, date of birth or address to an unknown group is not something i wish to do.

sorry mate,
checked out and they are not legitimate at all....rang a few numbers contacted city link, centrelink to which I do not have any debts so they are constantly ringing and asking us to call them back leaving an ID number and in so far no one can even tell me who I am who they want and to what end....then I found a message for a guy and he is owing the ATO and the ATO has not been able to find him and therefore they keep ringing my mobile...leaving all sorts of messages...pretending to be anything even though I;ve told them that I am not the person they wanted....they dont even know what the persob looks like..the date of birth..and whatever...
So stop saying that they are legitimate...cause they are not....Centrelink/CityLink, the ATO...do not operate like this...they send you letters and provide consultation and legal appeals..and in my case there is no ATO owing...told them countless times and they keep on going..now I'VE FOUND OUT that it is not only one person, with the same address such as Joe Bloe street, but different codes and areas....really how much are they going to chase after...dont we have a JUSTIFIED place and a law that curtails their working schedule? What do I do..? Refer the names of the people they are chasing after or leave it at that and let the, continuously harrass us? Hassle us, threatening us...

And what has TOLL got to do with DEBTS collectors? YOU ARE CONFUSING ALL OF US WITH WHAT YOU ARE TELLING US...we called the police, we called the ATO and we called the CENTRELINK...NOTHING...so PLEASE respect our complaints and stop telling us ANOTHER STORY..

Probe group pestering by text, then phone call. About a large debt not mine. Knew my phone no, former address, birthday, email. Bullied by the information. Told me they'd sent a letter from a lawyer I never got. Told me they'd email a copy. It never came. Then the texts started again. Blocked two numbers.

Screen all calls through an answering machine. They never leave a message. If they're not in your mobile call list, don't answer it. Must be years since I had a scam call.

I just received a text message about an hour ago "Message from The Probe Group regarding an urgent matter. Please call us on 1300 024 718 and quote DT......." - dots were the 7 numbers.
I started calling, but as always when i'm suss about something I google it straight away, so while I was on hold I came across this forum, and I hang up instantly after reading the first few articles.
Thanks for the heads up, hopefully others do the same as I've done before you get tied up in their crap and consistant phone harassment.
I figure that if i am in debt then that company that i am in debt with will contact me directly. I've never missed a payment or bill in my life, so definitely sounds suss. I suggest don't give them the time of day!

They are driving me mad to say the least!
I have a silent landline number & the calls from them start at 9pm - 11pm!
I'm going to speak to Telstra maybe about getting a trace on my calls & will go from there it's total harassment.
Lot's of people on whirlpool forum saying same thing & I just left a dirty review on Google.
