Got called twice today but hung up on me. I called them back. Guy on the other line was "Kevin Pietersen" from the ATO, who spoke in a strong Indian accent so I immediately knew it was a scammer. Asked him if ATO stood for Australian Taxation Office but hung up on me again. Loser.

It is now Nikki Johnson from the Australian Taxation Office, same message, time sensitive issue, your or attourney call back straight away, blah blah.

I hope no-one gets taken in by these clowns.

contacting work mobiles 6 times in last week. rang back they said they are the division of the ato and wanted to know who our attorney was.

Just got a call from the number. Answered the call, no answer at the other end of the line.

Message left supposedly from the Taxation Department on a sensitive issue.
I understand that the Taxation department does not contact people by phone on any issues. Number registered on inward calls was from overseas and was asked to contact (03) 6107 9638 checking this number revealed no results found.

I consider this a bogus message and am ignoring same.

Had a computerised female voice telling me today to call call the ATO with my lawyer on (03) 6121 4118.

I dont think these scammers realise this is a federal offence.
I hope the govt catches the bastards after all the stress it puts on people.

Nikki Johnson has rang our number twice about a very sensitive issue with ATO......

They keep calling me on my home number AND my mobile number! It's been going on for about 5 days now Nicky Johnstone call ATO (03) 6107 9638 automated message very hard to understand. It must be a scam but interestingly when I do call the number it beeps 3 times and disconnects anyway. I just want them to leave me alone.

Definitely SCAM AND TRASH! scaring people that they have tax debts. Report to ATO and police please!

I have received calls from this number as well as "private" number. I blocked this number but can't block private numbers. A definite scam.

I got a call from this number also. This is definitely a scam. Couldn't understand a word they said, except that it was from the Australian Tax Office. I used to work for the ATO before I retired, so I can tell you that the tax office DO ring people (and yes, with an Indian accent too), but they are not allowed to say anything until they ID you, which I could never understand why (they know who they rang, but the person on the other end can't be sure it is from ATO). They would never ever threaten you especially over the phone and won't tell you anything, or leave you a message until they are sure that they talk to the correct person. Anyway the best advise I can give is, if you are not sure, ask for their name, which area of the ATO are they from, look up the phone number for that department, and ring them to confirm if it was from them. If you gut feeling tells you it is a scam, it probably is. If you don't ring them back and they are legit, they will send you a letter regarding the call anyway.

I had the same call/message on my answering machine from "Niki Johnson" stating that she was from the Australian Taxation Office and threatening that they would take "Legal Action" if I did not ring back straight away. As I am a disability pensioner and suffer from a medical condition that leaves me sleepless, fatigued and confused I rang back but "Niki" was not there and I was told by whoever answered to ring back the next day. Thankfully I did a search and found this site stating it was a scam.

Two calls from these clowns today on my mobile. First one was a computer generated voice advising me that either me or my Attorney had to contact the ATO as a matter of urgency. Second call was a text message advising, " This message. I need you or your retain attorney of records to return this call. The issue at handed is extremely ___. First caller was foreign, possibly Indian.
Anyhow, I'm off to hand myself into the ATO now. ;)

This number is scam. Ive had it twice today. Both times rang tax office on their proper phone number and reported it. Spoke to police about it too. Definately a scam. All im getting is a recorded message telling me that if i ignored it they would take legal action. Then theyve got the audacity to tell me to have a nice day.......

Got a call twice on Friday. Female voice with strong Indian accent, claiming she is calling from ATO and asked if I have an attorney. Some deficiency in my tax payment in the past 7 years, tried to scare me with 'imprisonment'. Extremely poor voice quality, kept breaking up. She just dropped the call.

This is a scam number. Can't believe these telemarketers are getting worse and worse. We get a call basically every single day about something or another. I called the number back and told them how my mother was extremely anxious about the result of the message and they got all defensive telling me police were on the way to my house. Scumbags preying on old people

Got many call from this number. They left msg on msg bank on my mobile. Said they were from ATO about debt and that i had to ring back or take legal action. I knew already it was scam. I called back anyway to have a chat, only got wierd music in background, never got to talk to someone. This is in August 2015.
