Caller ID displayed number as (03) 4568 9097. Phone rings twice then hang up. Seems to call all/any hours between 0800 and 2000. Any online research regarding this number indicates that the caller is in Australia and it appears to belong to a telemarketing company (mostly solar panels and power rebate stuff). What is the damn point of having a Do Not Call Register if these Numpties can call whomever, whenever they want?

3 Calls attempted within 10mins. Answer machine intercepted. No message. However, I am under siege from an Indian Call centre which will not desist and can get obsene and insulting if you engage with them.

Several calls received and, as I didn’t recognise the number, I always just let it go to messages. If the caller is actually someone I know or someone who is trying to contact me for a specific purpose, they will happily leave a message about their call. If the caller is a scammer they will not leave a message and hope that you are curious, willing and dumb enough to just return their call anyway. Get a VOIP phone and your modem can send you an email about each call you receive including any messages left by the caller. Ignore calls where no message is left. If you do decide to return a call from an unknown number then withhold your caller ID first and wait for them to speak first. Genuine businesses etc., will have no problem in identifying themselves as soon as they pick up your call. Remember, you can’t win something you never entered, and never give out your personal information unless you are absolutely certain of the person you are speaking to. YOU are in charge. YOU have to make the right choices. If for some reason they keep calling back and you find it annoying, silence your phone if possible, and check it at your leisure.

Caller: No idea who called me. I picked up the phone by mistake to find someone offering me outside spot lights at 150w for free and free installation. "No good - got solar energy spotlights outside" - oh we can fit inside l.e.d. downlights for free of charge. "Not got down lights". He actually was pleasant and gave up. Another number blocked. (43 of them this month alone) But it's no use as they use a random access roaming system the uses variable computer generated phone numbers. There again, I suppose it keeps them off the streets committing crime!! Damn nuisance though.

Caller: I do not know I always write the caller's number down. By the time I have done that they usually have hung up. That indicates they are not known to me and they want out prior to answering machine cutting in.

I have had 5 calls today from no (03) 4568 9097. Twice an indian guy said that he was from an energy place and he hung up when I told him I was on a no call register but the other 3 times they just hung up without saying anything. Something needs to be done about mobs like this and stop them harassing everyone

This one called me. The number is now blocked. I will never give them any information or answer any questions. Remember, they are organized criminal gangs that have Australian contacts. Just hang up.

Caller: Overseas Scammers Using Australian Numbers Indian accent tried to tell me they'd replaced globes 2 years ago. Told him he'd got the wrong number & he proceeded to give our old address from 5 years ago. Couldn't pronounce my surname correctly. I told him the address was retirement village (it isn't) so he must have wrong number, wished him a good day & hung up. An apparent Australian phone number does not mean it isn't an overseas scam call. Do Not Call Register won't block these calls so best ignored.
