Called and my wife answered. They asked, with a think Indian accent, to speak to Mr. [insert surname]. My wife told them I wasn't available and they hung up. Glad I checked here before thinking of calling back.

Got a call from this number today. An Indian woman (thick accent) claiming her name is "Sandra". Alarm bells right there. She said she was from the government and assured me it was not a marketing or sales call. She explained how people under 59 years old can now save heaps of tax.....I cut her off there. I am a tax agent and I said what she was saying was crap. I said I didn't believe her name was Sandra, I didn't believe she was in Australia and that she is full of it.
She made out she was so offended that I didn't believe her. I hung up on her and called the number back and received the "Optus regrets this number is no longer in service" message.
I am getting pretty fed up with Optus and Telstra allowing overseas scammers to use local numbers to seem legitimate.
Apparently Telstra can put a halt to this but they make money from allowing it. Not sure if this is true, but I have had another two scammers call me (from private numbers this time) while I have been typing this.

Indian accent female looking for the home owner, phone displays what looks like a Sydney number. Starting to say they conducted research in our area a few months ago, and I probably wouldn't remember the call. I said, "no." and hung up. When I rang back the number, got the OPTUS recording messaage saying number no longer connected. Obviously overseas scam - why and how does it display a disconnected (02) number?.

Received phone call 8:39pm 30/04 asked my surname and he hung up. Rang number back and like all of the other compliants Optus Service announcement has been disconnected. You would think that with all the technology we have in communication that they could stop this nuisance calling

Brighton Group. I must have given them some information in the past as they always ask the same question about employment. Last night I told them I was unemployed and they hung up

Looking for the home owner, even though it looks like Sydney it is definitely from overseas & not very clear English. I hung up, haven't called back yet.

Received a call from someone allegedly representing the Brighton Group (unable to find any trace of them) with an offer of a personalised report. This listed opportunities for me to substantially reduce my tax, accumulate wealth, blah, blah, blah... No pressure, but the report couldn't be posted to me.

Rang this number with response stating "This is a number no longer in use". Message provided from Optus.

Calls constantly. I never answer numbers I don't know. Does not come up in directory. Rang them back and it's an overseas number. So a fake number to make it look like it's from Australia.
