I have received a number of phone calls from this call center. The most recent of these calls is promoting 'Free Dining'. Regardless of whether this call center is using this as a ploy to sell hotel/dinning products, these are calls that I do not want to know about.

This number has an association with an untraceable number of 00011976000. If this number is obtained via *69 it may be reported as 0011976000. If it is viewed on an iPhone it may be seen as (0) 1197 6000. However, within reverseaustralia.com, incidences with respect to this number appear to be reported under the numbers of :- (02) 1197 6000, (03) 1197 6000, (07) 1197 6000, and, (08) 1197 6000, depending on which state the person lives, and, as Reverse Australia does not accept prefixes of (0) or (00).

It is likely that this number of 00011976000 has more to do with a PABX in Australia that is doing the call diversions to overseas call centers than the call centers them-selves. And, for this reason, the PABX (or PCX) is likely to be a third party entity, and, reports are likely have a variety of descriptions of telemarketers, scenarios and other associated numbers if and when the telemarketer cares to leave a return number.

If you do happen to obtain a return number that is associated with 00011976000, I would encourage you to submit that information as a comment, as this would help to build a case to present to ACMA and/or the Telecommunications Omnibudsman.

With respect to (02) 9191 7479 :-

The telemarketer contacted me stating an offer of 'Free Dining'. In reality they are engaging me in a conversation to advertise and/or on sell products from :-
Sheraton on the Park (Australia) - www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=140, and further to this, Starwood Privilege Hotel Chain - privilege.starwoodhotels.com, Five Star Hotel Chain, and, Sheraton Hotel Chain.

Sheraton on the Park (Australia) is physically located at 161 Elizabeth Street, Sydney with a phone number of (02) 9286 6000. When you make enquiries about the 'Free Dining Offer' you discover that this is run by a company called 'Global Marketing Strategy' (GMS) which is also physically located within 161 Elizabeth Street, Sydney, and has a contact number of (02) 9283 6803 and bears a greeting message of ‘Starwood Privilege Pacific Membership Program’. GMS in turn subcontracts a company called 'Into Australia' which in turn subcontracts a call center that is physically located in Philippines. When you contact the call center directly via the Australian number of (02) 9191 7479 the supervisor states that he is located in Davao City, Philippines, however, steadfastly refuses to divulge his street address or who it is that directly employs his call center. He claims the justification for this, is, invasion of privacy, and, Australia's Privacy Laws. The only point of reference that he was able to provide for identity and credibility checks is the web site of www.starwoodprivilege.com. When you contact the Starwood Privilege Program on (02) 9283 6803 the supervisor there refuses to identify/verify the call center utilised. Once again, this is justified by sighting Australia's Privacy Laws.

As it is the intention of this Pilipino call center to obtain your credit card details in the process of selling you product and/or services, these circumstances present interesting possibilities if credit card fraud and/or identity theft were to become involved.

P.S. Notice that an "untraceable phone number" happens to be present and happens to help create the appearance of credibility on behalf of the call center.

This number has called me 3 times in 10 minutes. Unfortunately as it's on a landline I can't block the number as you would do with an iPhone and they won't take me off their register. Trying to promote Sheraton hotels free dining but ask for a credit card..

I have an unlisted number and am registered for "do not call". Just received a call from 001197600 and as soon as I heard the automated voice say "CONGRATULATIONS" I disconnected the call. Referring to Koman's report...what about our privacy??

I got a call from somebody called herself - Alison today as well. She was trying to scam my cc number. Later they kept calling me, then I just simply blocked the number in my phone.

Received call this a.m from 00011976000 - no one spoke. Tried to call it back but didn't answer after a few rings so aborted call as I wasn't sure where it originated from. At first glance it looks to be coming from an overseas number but on reading the posts, obviously it's not.
I am on the "Do Not Call' register, yet get innumerable calls from various organisations, mostly fund raising. If I don't recognise number, or it's 'Unknown', I simply don't answer !!

Just received a new telephone scam call (had stepped out to a neighbours for literally 5 minutes and voice mail recorded it)

Recording was:

Notice from Australian taxation office. The reason for this call is to inform you ATO is filing a lawsuit against you.
To get more information about this case file please call immediately on our department number (02) 8011 3555. I repeat (02) 8011 3855

The voice is a recorded voice type – more electronically put together than someone speaking it.

The number it came from is primarily the giveaway – 0011 976 000 – so, originates from overseas and not Australia.

I have had four different companies call me using the number 11976000. All were calling me in response to enquiries I had made, two MIGHT be associated with each other, but, otherwise they are unaware of the common number being displayed.
It seems the third party theory may be correct.
I do know that at least one of these companies is using a VoIP service, and they probably all are, so this is an internet telephony matter.
