I just had a call from this 'Fairchild Group' mob - from a private number though, so I guess they're trying to increase the odds of someone answering. Definitely the same lot though - silence followed by a beep, and the unmistakable delay of an overseas caller. Told me she was calling about 'Government tax rebates for workers' (I'm unaware of any tax rebates for the unemployed, so that seems a little redundant :D). Hung up then, but it's annoying - I don't believe I can block a private number, and even more annoying is that my parent's home phone comes up as blocked so I always answer in case it's them. Am resigned to getting a few more of these, but at least now I've solved the mystery of the couple of missed calls from blocked numbers with no voicemail I've had recently :)

The company is Australian Credit & Finance. I have spoken to their manager a couple of times to remove my number from their marketing list and so far all is ok. EXCEPT, I have received 2 calls from them in the past couple of weeks but there is no one on the end of the line only a silence (not a prank silence though) and it only lasts a few seconds. Call (02) 8484 2814 and speak with the Manager and request a removal.

Have had many missed calls, finally answered it and yes seems like a scam. There was a long beep then said he was from Fairchild Group? Was going on about government rebates and wanted personal information.

Talked about tax rebate for lower income. Told them doesn't apply to me!

Just had a missed call. Tried calling back from mobile and land line and the number can not be reached. It has that message when a phone had been disconnected!

Same as above comments. Talking about reducing taxes and so on, Said They would call back in 5 and discuss further, they didn't call back, but if they did I wasn't going to give them the time of day, seemed dodgy.

Yep same today sone sort of government tax rebate...i hung up ...beware!!

They are so annoying! Have now blocked them... I've been contacted atleast 3 times. The last time they contacted me I said I work for the government.. They hung up!

I feel sorry for the people they fool with their scams.

Have called NUMEROUS times and are still calling as first time I was overseas and asked if I work & pay tax in Australia. Very strange.

Claim that there is a "government initiative" and they could reduce my income tax by 48%, but only they were sharing this information. Now surely if it was a government initiative it would be public info!

I said I couldn't talk at the time and asked them to call back...then promptly added to rejects list :)

They called me about tax and stuff and asked me personal questions...

Same story as above - missed calls and no message. Thanks for the advice. I've blocked them now.

They called 26 August after 6.30pm and did not leave a message.

I've missed quite a few from this number, though did catch one call. They talked about giving financial advice, and about helping me use government incentives to reduce my tax. Something about property. I wouldn't give any personal info, as I'd never heard of the company before. But they wanted to sit down with me in person. The lady was lovely, and didn't give me a hard time at all, but told her I don't pay any tax and never heard from them again.

Regular calls from this number. Thanks to posters here for their reports. I let it ring out...the best way to discourage them.

Had a missed call from this number but not connected when I call back. I've had a few of these calls previously from different numbers. I now code it in my phone so I know not to bother returning calls.

Getting Calls from this number as well - waste of Time - Block them on your mobile if you can - time wasters....

Yeah, I just got another one today, sounded Asian speaking about tax, atleast everyday, I got 1 for 2 weeks stopped awhile now back again
