Yes Sorry but it's true i done some research in to charities because they don't get enough funds from government they are exempt from the DO NOT CALL REGISTER so they can call anyone they want from the communication digital directory to which they have authority. As to your mailing details and who you are in some cases they have that in front of them with your number again to help the poor!!! So you have no choice but to tell them who you are and where you live so they can send you your donation coupon book or your tax deductible receipt only. But make sure you don't tell them anymore info than that. P.S. Never give your credit card number over the phone!!! Hope this helps

Why are charities and religious organisations exempt from DNR? Do laws that apply to everyday Australians not apply to them? If I was to ring someone daily after they requested not to contact them again I am sure I would be breaking the law!

Check your phone. Some phones do have a blocking ability. Mine does and I just add the number to the list.

(02) 9112 3745. Pain the proverbial nuisance callers from the red cross. Claim to provide 800,000 children a year in Australia with breakfast otherwise they'd go hungry. Bulldust. If the peasants can't feed the little urchins, the parents should get a job like real people or they should donate their children to someone with a brain. You can call 1800 811 700 or (03) 9345 1800 to complain, but it probably won't do any good.

This number will try our place up to five times a day. We don't pick it up and they don't leave a message. I wouldn't mind except that with a back disability, it is an effort to get to the phone to see who's calling. Is there a way to block a number?

So bloody sick and tired of these guys calling !!!! They are calling EVERY day sometimes twice a day (during bus hours & after hours). So far today, Saturday they have called 3 times. We're on the do not call register & have a silent number. We have told them repeatedly not to call but they still do. So Hubby gave a more direct instruction to them.

I'm on the DNCR too, just ask the (Red Cross) to remove you from there call list, as you do not give to charities who ring for any reason.
Ask politely. They have too.

I've received 3 calls in a row from this number in as many days and I don't answer because I don't know who it is but they never leave a message which seems to be the hallmark of a telemarketing call. After googling it seems apparent that it's the Red Cross. I think it's ridiculous that on our Do not Call Register, charities are exempt and can call as many times as they like- it is intrusive and insulting- most people support one if not more charities and don't need to be pressured via common sales tactics in the comfort of their homes to commit on the spot to more. Older people especially are susceptible to being pressured or guilted via manipulative sales tactics to commit to ongoing monthly donations that they often cannot afford. Any charity that attempts to solicit donations over the phone is unethical. If they can't come up with a better business model then they clearly lack inspiration and are doing their charity a disservice.

Answered my phone and heard only background (kitchen?) noises from this number. After saying hello three times they disconnected. If they're scammers I'm wondering if they're phoning around trying to find elderly women to prey on.

Just to add to my previous post RE: (02) 9112 3745 - I called the Aust. Red Cross and spoke to a lovely lady called 'Melissa' (at the Melbourne office) - she confirmed that the Red Cross are currently selling Raffle Tickets to raise $ - the calls we are receiving are from an external source, whom are employed by the Red Cross. At least this reassures me that these calls are legitimate and NOT a scam :)

I've had a few calls lately from 02 911 23 745 - they claimed to be calling to sell raffle tickets to raise $ for the Red Cross - I could barely understand the guy who called the other day - he was very pushy - seemed very sus (wanted my name + address 2 apparently post something). Just had another call from same # they said hello a couple times, then hung up. I called the number back, it appears to be legit - it is a call centre in Wellington NZ who are calling people on behalf of the Red Cross to sell raffle tickets. Hope this helps everyone who keeps getting these pesky calls. I will call the Red Cross to double check this info + will re-post if there is anything different to add :)

Thanks everyone for setting me right on this number - I never answer a call if I don't know the number and then head for here straight away to check them out. I have put them on my reject list now. Also just be aware of what I was told by a lady from Telstra and that is they often call through Skype and other such sites and thus the delay in you connecting - I hang up anyway and like another person said - I am on the 'DO NOT CALL REGISTER" and have number id and also messagebank - if someone wants me leave a message!!
