I'm a Vodafone customer and am with you 100% and have been through exactly the same conversation. It is a Vodafone sales call. They ask for your PIN because the operator needs it to access the details of your account. This is a security issue and it is very irresponsible for them to train customers to give out their PIN like that to incoming callers and I have also argued that point with them on the phone and by email, but they persist. It is very likely that the call you receive is genuine, but I recommend that you refuse to give your PIN either way, tell them why and end the call.

If it's Vodafone, why would they want to upgrade us, we still have year to go on our contract so they wouldn't do it to start with!

Wanting to talk about exciting new offers. Legit recording saying that they will try to call again later. I will answer next time.

I phoned Vodafone and gave them this number. They advised they will only ever call from a mobile number - never a landline, so this is definitely a scam.

Caller: Some Indian guy.

Supposedly a Vodaphone upgrade promotion.
Required Voda pin#.
Sounded suspicious to me, not required anyway.
If genuine, needs to be more professional or, (preferably) - Vodaphone, quit doing this.
Gave him a civil farewell.

Genuine Vodafone number flogging new products/plans. The voicemail gives instructions on how to remove your number from robo call list.

Caller: I don't know

This number called me stating "someone has signed you up to find out facts daily about your mother. Say tuned to find out who. Your credit card will be charged..." and then I hung up. The voice defiantly sounded like a robot or recording.

For the love of God, stop ringing endless times at all hours if the day! Got 9 calls in 2 days. No voice message left. Blocked them a while back but I can see the number of times they're trying. Morons!!! Bloody Vodafone or scammers.

Don't need a sales call to me.
If I need to talk to Vodafone, I make a call.
