Yes, just got a call from (02) 8607 8228 from a 'Jason O'Conner' from the 'Australian Tax Office' saying there was a case against 'me' (no name used) for tax evasion being taken to the supreme court and the police would be arriving at my residence to issue a warrant and to please call back.

I have also received a call from a James Anderson from this no ( well please call me back on this number), claiming a garbled statement about how he was from the Tax Office ( that would be a joke) and assisting the case against me for tax evasion. I used pretty colorful language and hung up on him, and he even phoned back and left a message.
Should I report this to the police?- just thinking of some people who may be gullible with this scam

I got that call from the same number 4 months ago, I call the Federal Police and they confirm it was a scam, as they were looking into this matter and will follow it up, but I never got any more calls from that number anymore. I did call that Sydney number, and told them to take me to court if they can find my name and address. That was it no more calls.

We received 3 calls, 2 of which went to message bank and the 3rd one my wife hung up on. First message was from a James and asked for a callback on (02) 8607 8228, and the second one from a Matthew on (02) 8607 5071.

If I get it again, I'll just say that if you're from the ATO contact my accountant. Obviously you must know who that is.

Also, who in Australia says that where taking you to the courthouse? Sounds like a New Jersey accent to me

The guy has now changed the name to Kevin. Got that call yesterday.
I must also say that when i called the ATO to ask if this was a fraudulent call, i was shocked by their incompetence. The guy couldnt even check if that number was on their register as a genuine ATO. After talking to the ATO for 20 minutes and getting no answers i just hung up. Thanks to google i found this blog and got my answer regarding the (02) 8607 8228

I wish people wouldn't assume that us seniors are gullible fools who can't spot a scam when it sits on their face. Not all of us are senile, you know. That said, I got ten messages on my answering machine last week, I suspect because the wording was identical it may have been a recording. I finally decided to ring the number and sure enough, it was 'Jason O'Connor from the Australian Tax Office' even though he gave his name as 'Anderson' or 'Henderson' in the messages he left, hard to tell since the accent was so thick. I advised him of my opinion of him and haven't heard back since. But then, what would I know, I'm just a stupid old senior.

Not a tax avoider, Maybe your knowledge of the law is a joke. they may gathering intel, to track this all the way to the top, just shutting the number down, they'll just move to another one and start up again. You can't just walk in and shut anything down with out following protocols.

Fernando Henderson called from this number, I'm "....off to prison for $4,500 unpaid takes maam". The government is suing me for $70,000 - $80,000. I asked why I haven't received a letter or summons or any written information. It's because I might try to escape. I swore a bit and hung up and when he called back he said because of my disrespectful language he'd make me regret it, "...I will make sure you go to prison maam". Crikey!

Got 4 messages in a week. First 2 telling me to call back before police take action and the latest 2 telling me someone assign the case to him? I'm wondering why this number is still activate after a week! Should've been blocked already.
