someone claiming to be from the government re a debt. Poor english used. Gave name of Matthew.

Received a call from (02) 8607 5071
Jason O'Connor how a person with such an accent can have a name of Jason O'Connor made me think this number was a scam. Message ATO going to issue a arrest warrant by local police etc etc etc
Tried to ring number but it rang out

Yes, call the ATO report a scam number 1800 008 540, they follow up these with the police

Claims to be Mathew Logan and that the ATO has started legal action for Tax avoidance. He wants you to contact him on that number to avoid a court appearance

Similar to the event stated by Dianne, I had a missed call voice text message that said "My name is Jason O'Connor from the Australian Taxation Office. The need and the purpose of this call is just to" and there the message ends. I did not return the call because I do not know anyone who would call me from 02 area code and treat all calls starting with 02 as suspicious and therefore not worthy of a follow up call

Even if the calls do not originate from the caller-id number, it has to be routed through an exchange - Telstra will have the details of who has leased that number that the call is showing coming from, the leasee is the one that is chased for who they sub-leased the number to. etc.

Message left on my phone 21-11-2017.. The ATO is after me with court action and my local police officer is coming to arrest me if I dont phone him back on (02) 8607 5071....
I am going to refer this to my phone provider and A.T.O. Surely someone in authority can catch these scammers and ship them back to India or Paki land. One of the reasons I have an answering machine, best investment. Never have to engage with them

Tuesday 21-11-2017..Jason O'Connor (02) 8607 5071 .. apparently this scumbag scammer with the Paki or Indian accent is from ATO and we are going to be arrested by our local police officer. Called his bluff, and going to report to police and ATO for good measure.

Yet another bogus call from this number claiming to be from ATO, stating there is an arrest warrent in progress. Phew! When will these guys wake up to the fact that it's not working. I just hope they are not successful in scamming any elderly folk.

This number is still being usage by the scammer.

Same number, same type of ATO scam !
Second round i five years which stops after you block their numbers. The first time it was (03) 4309 4093.
What is interesting is that it starts after a real ATO phone call that is settled then and there.
Then these guys come in. Which I conclude is a data leak from within ATO's systems and is being taken advantage of by scammers.

I never answer or call back these unknown numbers.Just remember the ATO never calls you they will contact you by mail only and they never use the word ‘fiscal year’either so these are scam numbers

Same. have had 5 calls in 48 hours. The calls do not originate from (02) 8607 5071 so pointless to try and block these calls. ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

I have received 4 phone calls from Matthew and Jason from the Taxation Office.. claiming that i have a legal case against me!! they do not know when to stop!! we hung up and deleted the messages they left on our answering machine.. I hope people are wise enough not to get sucked in my these guys!! Such a scam!

Let the call go to message bank when I didn't recognise the number. Same as all of the unhappy complaints before mine, it was a Matthew Logan and that he was from ATO and that we had a tax dept. The Police need to chase this one up by the looks of it.

Five calls today from Jason O'Connor (with a very strong foreign accent) threatening my arrest for tax evasion. Doesn't this fellow ever give up? The authorities need to trace this number and charge him.

got a call from Jason O'Conner saying the same as above,,big scam how do you block them..

everyone should call them and let them know that the police and scam watch has been notified of their illegal operations and for harrassment. They have called me over 15 times. So over it.

They are calling every hour on the hour about the same ATO scam.
How do I stop them calling?

yep they called saying i had a $9000 tax debt with ATO and that police were on there
way to arrest me
these people have no shame !!!!! earn money the real way like the rest of us
