They're scammers. The "do not call" register only applies, and can only be prosecuted from within Australia. These turkeys rent of buy a server, in Australia but make their calls through the server from overseas, usually India or the Phillipines. All that shows on your caller ID is the number of the server which appears to be a local call, or at least one from within Australia. When you report this, Telstra, Optus and any other service providers are indifferent if not ambivalent about tracing these servers and shutting them down. If you do answer the phone when they call and there's actually someone there, tell the person that you have reported this (their) number to the police and Telstra / Optus and they are having it traced. The calls soon stop (for a while).

I just had a call from this number (02) 8599 6147, when I spoke, nobody answered me. I called back twice, but the phone call did not get answered. Annoying !

rang three times tonite and still no return number...I think that I will put it into the hands of Telstra.I have a mate as a technician at an exchange and he can test it for me

I got the same. Missed call with hello, hello on voicemail. Then the next night they called at about he same time I answered but no response from the other end.

Same as Sue. Phoned me let it go to answering machine. When I tried to call back a message said this number is disconnected. I want to know how they got my number as I am unlisted.

They called me I didn't answer, put my number on private called back lady with Chinese or Malaysian accent answered sounded like she was in a crowded public place partying... How can we stop these numbers. It's bullsh*t 3 times a wk I block them & yet others call I'm over it..

it's not disconnected, it tried to call me today, but I didn't answer. Like you I never answer unknown numbers

Same call here, I believe they have purchased info of Australians and they call to confirm that person still resides there so they can get more info and it could become identity theft! If you happen to answer and someone is on the line. Let them know you know it's a scam, Do Not Give any info!
