I called this number back about 5 times and each time told them I was from ATO Investigations and that the phone call was being recorded and traced. I then said the Australian federal police will be conducting a search warrant on their premises. I have tried to call back several times and no one picks up now.

Well what an interesting phone message. Sad thing is people must get sucked in by this and agree to pay these people some amount of money to supposedly stop the harrassment.

Just had two of these today. One from this number and one from (02) 9037 3808. Certainly sounds like a scam. The two used very similar wording but had different threats. The one from this number claimed to be Jason O'Connor but both had thick Indian accents.

This is a scam and not a very good one! They could have at least got someone who could speak English properly to pretend they were calling from the Australian Tax Office. The threat of police issuing an arrest warrant is laughable!

I also received a lovely message from Jason O'Connor but I also received a phone call from a female, whose name I couldn't understand (funny that). I humoured her and answered all her questions the way she would want them to be answered then I told her to "go forth and multiply". I can fully understand how and why elderly people can be confused and traumatised by these calls. Can the numbers not be traced and the people themselves be arrested as soon as possible.

This scumbag "Jason O'Connor" has called our elderly widowed friend 3 times now in the past month and basically terrorised the poor woman thinking she was going to be arrested until I told her it is a scam. Each time he has given her this number to call. She has reported it to the police. This guy needs to be caught and strung up.

I called this number. It diverts to an international line and eventually gets answered. As I am in Canberra, and only 10 minutes away form the ATO, I spoke to "Eric Paul" who had been leaving threatening messages on my mothers phone and advised him that I would come into the ATO to pay the money she was owing as I had Power of Attorney over her bank accounts.

"Eric Paul" (without even waiting to hear WHO my mother was) advised that she owed the ATO $4800 and would I be able to get my hands on such a sum of money is such a short time? I assured him I could as there were three banks I could stop at between my office and the ATO. Unfortunately when I mentioned I worked for the "Justice Department" he hung up on me. He also would not answer when I called again.

Poor Eric. : (

I had the same guy today. I rang him back to tell him what I thought of him, and he started talking the most obscene language. Said he was from ATO.

Much the same as previous reports.
"A motion has been filed against my name concerning tax evasion. Before the things go wrong against me and a policeman comes to my place and issues an arrest warrant kindly ring this number...." (Not verbatim because the english was actually more fractured"

Rang the number but got an engaged signal

These people keep calling my aged mother and frightening the life out of her with threats of taking her to jail for tax evasion.

I have taken to calling them back every 15 minutes to ask random inconsequential questions.

It seems to be annoying them.

Good.

Rang the number after hearing about the scam on the radio. Bloke from India/Pakistan answered with "Australian tax office". Took great delight in abusing the guy before he quickly hung up. Tried again a few times and phone was off hook. Phone again answered and I asked "tax office"?. Bloke said "No"...so I abused him again anyway!
