Dodgy link lead me to a page telling me to ring this number. It probably redirects to an Indian Micro$oft support centre.

Thankful for sites like this, I too had this pop up but I thought it might be a scam so I decided to check the number out on sites like this one and sure enough it was a scam. Thank you to all who leave comments on these site it helps a lot. I have learned to always check out numbers I don't know on these types of sites first. Just wondering if anyone might possibly know how to stop it from popping up again....

Near crapped myself...first time I've come across this "pop up scam." Decided to see what I could find online. To those previous posts: Thanks for the information; I can now carry on :)

Yep same pop-up, same number - (02) 8417 2382. Called it and some american robot said : "This call maybe monitored or recorded" Then it connected me to some indian guy, who said something like 'you get my point?" at one point. I was like 'hmm, that doesnt sound like talk-centre protocol.

He wanted me to press my start button while pressing 'r' so he could take control of my computer remotely. I was like 'uhh, call you back. Then i entered the phone number into google and found this page, and another saying it was a scam, too. I'll ring optus tommorw to confirm it. What scum!

You are being warned to avoid calling this number, infact avoid calling any number that asks you to call them over a virus pop ups on your computer screen. This and many more numbers belongs to a bunch of Indian thugs or low lives who thinks they can earn this way. I called all the numbers that popped on my computer screen and they all belong to the same people. They claim that their stupid names are like David, Micheal McLay, Smith and so on but what about the stupid deep curry accent that they have. Everyone you are warned not to call them as they try to remotely access your computer and steal personal information.

Had this number pop up on my computer with a blue screen and IP address as well saying the data and credit cards were compromised. I didn't call the number and my ISP confirm that this is a pop up number and say DO NOT CALL as could be dodgy. Definitely sounds like it is!
