Didn't give name or where they were from but said that the ATO was threatening legal action for tax evasion and that I had to ring the number straight away. They were very intimidating. They threatened seizure of assets. My daughter answered the phone and it upset her a lot.

Interesting that the ATO is prepared to spend up big helping lawyers to get rich, just to end up with egg on their face ( a la Paul Hogan and many other examples) but the same bean counters aren't interested in doing the right thing to make a stand against real fraudsters who are preying on the innocent and gullible, oh thats right, the ATO prey on them too, don't they. That would be hypocritical wouldn't it

We get daily messages asking us to ring this number because there's a tax fraud against "my" name (which one of us??) sometimes men's voices, sometimes women's, all with Indian sub-continent accents. We're threatened with police arriving ... being taken to court ... one woman said she would personally sign the arrest warrant (!) and they will take all our property. The callers are VERY menacing and threatening - we just laugh, but some people would be really terrified. They should be stopped - this is threatening behaviour.
And no - I can't block the calls - they come from a private number.

Makes me angry that these Scumbags get away with this and pray on the less aware. See how they go scamming when they get punched in the throat.

Upon returning from a tour of China, we observed two identical telephone messages from (02) 8317 3564 at 11.36 am on Thursday, May 2016 and at 12.11 pm on Tuesday, 24 June 2016 from a male of Indian accent and purportedly from the ATO. The name of the caller was ?? O'Connor; accusing us of tax evasion and issuance of a arrest warrant, unless we call back (02) 8317 3564. I suspected that the above pre-recorded messages were scam.

On Tuesday, 7 June 2016, we received the same telephone message verbatim with a different telephone number (02) 8103 2017 to call back.

This is annoying. It is no doubt that the above telephone numbers are linked to a call centre somewhere in India or Nigeria. I wish the ATO and/or the Telephone service provider would cause action to identify the soured-owners of these calls and arrest them and pursue further action via interpol.

I pity senior citizens being duped by these fraudsters!!!

Retrieved message on the home landline "O'Conner calling you from the australian taxation office. The nature and purpose of this call is just to inform that there has been a lawsuit filed against your name concerning a tax evasion and this case is about to get registered into the commonwealth courthouse of your territory. So before the things will go wrong with you or before, the police officer of the local police department will approach you and issue you a warrent for your arrest kindly call us back on on our call back number which is (02) 8317 3564. I repeat my telephone number again which is (02) 8317 3564. Again this is Jason O'Conner from the Australian Taxation office. Thank you. Have a wonderful day. " called back but couldn't get through.

Yes, same thing. Vague message about tax evasion and that they were going to arrest someone (who...?). Thought I'd paid enough tax already!

Can someone please do something about this or remove the number!?

A message similar the others was left on my message bank. Telstra or someone else responsible for their service should report them to AFP, CCC and anyone else appropriate. Please join with me in notifying Telstra, or the others.

I've had several voice messages left over the last few days from the same person "Jason O'Connor" apparently from the ATO asking me to call this number urgently or I'll be arrested for tax evasion. I actually called the number and it was picked up from someone obviously in a call centre, but claiming to be the ATO. I didn't actually expect someone to answer and just hung up on them as I always new it was a scam.

Suspicious call representing the ATO

Posted on May 23, 2016

I have just received a call to my mobile number advising(as far as I could make out due to the heavy accent) that the caller is from the ATO and there is a case against me relating to tax evasion. The call initially gave the name (illegible) and phone number (02) 8317 3564. The caller then went on to say I should call this number before things go bad for me and if I didn't Police would arrive and serve a warrant for my arrest. Of course, I decided to check it out on line and lo and behold found this blog with numerous similar calls made to people.
The important thing to remember is the ATO do not call you initially re personal matters they send you a letter detailing the situation. The onus is then on you to contact them.
I will now refer this to the ATO for investigation and hopefully they can apprehend and imprison these bastards.
