I had a call from No Caller ID and had missed a few calls so answered to ensure they would stop calling me. It was someone calling from "Reclaim Australia" from the Australian Federal Government. He said they had worked out that I was owed $6325 due to being overcharged on various transactions by the bank. Now I'm typing this out it sounds so lame. But it seemed real because then they knew my name, my home address, and I had to verify my DOB. I said "But you should know that" and he said "I just need to confirm your identity so I know we are paying the right person". Then he said I should call his supervisor to have the cheque issued and gave me this number (02) 8317 3153. So I called and they said they would send me a cheque and then all I had to do was pay a money order through the post office. Because there was a lawyer who had worked out how much money I was owed I just needed to pay a small amount up front. At which point I hung up.

Absolutely identical call as posted by "Scammed!" on 11 January . Received ours today 19 January. Keep this message circulating, its the only way to beat these crooks.

They have obviously changed their story - my call asked me to call back because someone had made a complaint against me for tax evasion and avoidance. They want me to call back before a warrant is issued for my arrest!! Haha nice try, I pay my taxes thanks very much.

I had the same message as BARTON Australia. Word for word what you are saying!!! I am still waiting for my cheque also. Have had the same p/call a number of times. If you refuse to give date of birth they just hang up, so my husband suggested to give a bogus DOB. So it went ahead & they said they would send a cheque but I told the supervisor he was a scammer. So I never had the money order spiel!!!!

So I guess I won't be getting my $6325 refund 😒

By the time they ring you, they already have your name and address from the telephone directory.
They get your interest by saying you are owed a refund.
They then ask your Date Of Birth, and method of payment. Even if you request payment by cheque, they still ask you for your (preferred) Bank.
In addition to asking you to pay a fee (I never rang back to get that far) they are likely gathering information to be able to impersonate you (identity theft/fraud).
Tell them to go away and definitely don't phone them back.

Same scam phone call from "Ferish" representing the Australian Government Finance Department, same message, same request for DOB, same "call my Manager" phone number (02) 8317 3513.

They tried it on with my elderly father....same spiel as above, fortunately we caught it before any damage could be done....why cant these telephone numbers be cancelled to at least limit the potential damage.

Same here, same script read same amount. "Steve Fraser", with a heavy Indian accent has called numerous times over the last two days.

Same call, same spiel, same names. I looked up "Reclaim Australia" in Google and most of the references are for a right-wing Australian anti-Islamic political group who have never read their history books. Whatever, it's a scam!!

Just received exactly the same call from same number. Asked to ring Manager but didn't get through 4 times so lady rang me back and said Manager would call me. Haven't heard back so far. Same amount $6325 but for utilities overcharges and bank overcharges. I don't pay any bank fees. Suspicious immediately.
