I do wish the do not call register worked effectively, as the whole idea of that register is that we should not receive any of these calls. Even with a silent number the calls keep coming. During the elections we received daily calls and e-mails - from the politician sitting at the time. He managed to go through being spammed, blocked and refused to acknowledge a request to his office. Thankfully he lost his seat, but the double standards of allowing the parliamentarians freedom to annoy us in this way is just as bad as the (02) 8103 4661 scammer asking us to call re a tax bill. We as pensioners do not have enough money for normal luxuries, so why are politicians allowed to spend money that would be better added to our pittance of a pension.

Pre recorded message (not calling me by name) saying that I had delinquent tax, that letters sent to my house were returned unsigned, that there was a warrant for my arrest, and to call this number to sort it out. I rang the (actual) ATO on 13 14 50. Yep: scam confirmed.
If you get this call, ring the ATO to report it, but don't stress. They don't send pre-recorded calls, they will confirm your identity before giving you any information, and they won't get you to call a private number to follow up.
