My mom received a call similar to this, the address they give is for Tourism NZ; and the name was unable to be recognized of the caller himself - though the details of the supervisor are Sean Mitchell; who supposedly needs drivers liscence details to get through to the supervisor. (Sean Mitchell is listed as the publisher of techday for NZ that is..) Feverishly tried to ask for contact, identity and monetary details - the only thing mom said was WHICH bank she was with and not her bank number. Originally the guy said he was from the NZ government, and then changed to saying Government Body, 147 Victoria Avenue Central Auckland 1010. (Tourism NZ)
well, some guy caught it on video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhiX7vF2ldk(there are 7 parts to this video...) The last video shows that they have stopped the activity at the given number....
I just received a call from these same people claiming they were the Australian Government Reclaim Expert Department. I know for a fact that this department does not exist and I would doubt that the Australian Government would outsource their call centres overseas.Once I presuured the caller to provide with me with more details about the department, who the responsible department and Minister were, he hesitated and hung up. This is a scam - do not provide your details or send any money.
I had a call this morning from a foreign person (male) calling himself ‘Alan Cooper’, and who identified his company as 'BANK RECLAIM EXPERTS' with registered offices in Manchester and Leeds UK. When I asked for the address of his company, he gave me a PO Box 333, Leeds LS19 9FH. My suspicion were further confirmed when he gave my address as being somewhere in 64, Hook Road, KT6 5BN, Kent UK. I do not, and have never, lived in Kent. My call display indicated that the call number was unavailable. He then asked me to hold, and shortly after the line went dead. He claimed that 'the' bank had contacted his company and were ready to repay me the amount of £8,000 in wrongly charged fees.
The scam's still going!! Got a call this morning at 7.30 from "Jenny Wilson" - strong foreign accent plus slight delay as call was connecting indicating it was from o/seas. She said she was from Reclaim Experts ("I must have heard of it from TV & radio") & wanted to return $3140.00 that my bank had overcharged. I asked for name of bank & she got flustered & stuttered then said "Commonwealth" then asked me to confirm that I did bank with the CBA. She asked for my DOB & mobile number then gave me a claim number - RG00783 - & told me to phone her Senior Account Manager, "John Smith" on (02) 6100 2980 immediately I finished with her call - which I didn't do because the whole thing was just ridiculously unprofessional & unbusinesslike & unbelievable!!
At 8am she rang back again wanting to know why I hadn't rung John Smith. I told her it wasn't convenient as she'd phoned at 7.30 in the morning. She was obviously surprised & didn't know what to say - then recovered & urged me to phone John Smith as soon as possible. I told her I would, as soon as it was convenient for me. I don't expect that to be any time soon!!
Australian Government Reclaim Experts. I received a call from a person that sounded like an overseas call centre. She had all my details, claiming that I was owed $4000 odd.
Gave me the number of her Supervisor a Mark Johnston (03) 9016 0580. Called the number, he explained thses overcharges were for overdrawals and bill payments. I advised I had never overdrawn my account. He asked how I would like the money paid, either into my account or via direct delivery by "Government Solicitor" Allan Scott. I advised him that if he was going to give me a cheque it will need to be sent via mail. He went into some details about how I would have to go to the post office and pay some form of tax on this before they could deliver it. I'm Googling name of company as he was speaking to me and came across this previous notifiation about the same sort of call.
I advised him that he was trying to scam me and he got very heated and asked me who had told me so. Told him I had checked this out while he was speaking to me and hung up on him.
I've just received the same call from Sharon at the Australia Council Reclaim Department. The number they gave to call them on was (08) 9467 7862. The amount was $5114.00 and what they termed as an administration fee was $150.00. Same as above using Western Union for their transactions but I thought this was a bit different - they requested a copy of my passport or diver's licence! I did not give any information but it was very disturbing having a stranger know my name and address.I had a simillar call about 4 months ago where the called claimed to be accociated with the ATO claims department. Again an Indian accent and again the government owing me money through unclaimed tax. The amount was $9xxx.xx. There were cents and there was a fee. No P.O. but the money was to be transfered into my bank account. When I said no they insisted on sending a cheque.I wasn't aware that there is someone investigating this scam. If I ever get another call I'll try to get more details and post them. I hope I don't!
