Just go the scam call (02) 8005 7523 offering a $5248 efungd thought this was a scam glad others do to, won't be calling that number!!!!

Just got a call from this number. Indian accent said his name was Alam or something and from the federal govt solar rebate scheme. Knew my name but that's easy enough to get from the phone book. I said I wasn't interested and hung up immediately as I was sure it was another scam.

My 75 year old Mother got the same call, she called me, being in the tele sales industry, It makes me MAD that these little Indian Scammers from an Island off India called Maldives, can get away with it, and the reason it is always under $20, is they know that you are covered under Merchant Insurance if you pay by Credit Card, and you will be refunded easily. THATS not the Issue here, our Government allows this to happen and does not spend a CENT on Educating or Advertising that these scams operate. Anyway, Unless you are called by a company with an ACN and a return Number that is not answered by a machine or message bank. you can count it as being a 100 % Scam. Its a shame for the legit companies out there that are genuinely trying to help Australians with Finance and retirement planning.

just had the same type of call, unfortunately they had my name and address. without thinking i confirmed my date of birth (slapping myself in the head) my mobile gave their number as +52(678)945623 i will not be ringing back with their stupid order number

I also received a call that I'm entitled to $7268. I checked with the bank And we had a laugh because I always check my bank statement and the bank never charged me any transaction fees in the first place. They asked me to pay them $199 to release the refund. If they think that Australians are idiot then let them go to hell.

I also just received a call regarding a refund of $7268 from a government dept, also double checked the phone nos given, its a scam, hang up!!!

Just received a call from a heavily Indian accented woman. Told me she works for Federal Government and I am entitle to receive $7200 from overcharging. I asked where do you call from she said from Sydney. I asked how come you are working on public holiday! She asked about my bank name but I did not give her. Like Judy I decided to looked up the number she gave me to call and saw all these comment. Thanks everyone for your opening eyes comments.

This scam is apparently still happening (28/3/2014)! Got a call from a male with a very heavy Indian accent, telling me I was entitled to $7268 as a refund for overcharges by my bank. Asked for date of birth and who I banked with - gave false info. Then gave me a reference number CD786 and told me to ring and speak with (surprise, surprise) Rebecca Brown! I didn't make the follow up call, but the phone rang again and it was the same guy, asking whether I had made the call or not, I told him that I knew he was a scammer and not to call again as it had been reported. Persistent little buggers!

I have Caller Id and the call came from (03) 8288 1946,but it cams as unknown on the "Reverse Phone Book Site"

It is definitely a scam,as i also received a call,he had a heavy accent(Indian)and used the name of Max.

Received a call from Peter last night, stating I was to receive a cheque for $7628.00 from Over charges fees from the Commonwealth bank, (strange I don't even bank with the commonwealth bank.) He stated he was from The Federal government and would send a cheque to my address which he had,or a bank transfer. I had to ring (02) 8091 4944 after 10am the following day, I called and was kept on hold for 3 mins I just hung up. BEWARE it is a Great big SCAM and don't fall for it.

Yep, all of the above! The entitlement they claimed I was due was $7628, and don't forget the 74 cents. 'Jack' (from Calcutta!)asked which bank I used and I told him a fake, he said that was the correct bank and that he had details in front of him. I will admit i swore at him!

One of the more sophisticated scams. They pretend to call from a government agency like ACCC or ATO.

Claim that they have investigated Aussie banks and found that banks have overcharged EFTPOS fee and they have a refund of $7628 for me. They had all my details except DOB. Did not ask for anything just gave me a reference number and asked me to call (02) 8091 4944 during business hours.

I called with my reference number was told that I need to pay a solicitors fee to facilitate bank transfer. I can go through Aussie lawyers for $1000 or I can use an outsourced overseas lawyer for $199.

Lots of background noise, I am from Indian background so picked some real vile conversation in the background, decided to play along with fake details and let them that I will be reporting to Scamwatch and the Indian police.

The girl lost it and proceeded to use very colourful language.

I just had the same call, with the same spiel and the same amount.. I refused to give them any details.. they asked which from bank I wanted the cheque from, I said if the refund is from the g'ment then it should be from the reserve bank.. it sickens me to think how many unsuspecting people get conned/scammed...

Similar SCAM call today from person with Indian accent, claiming to be from Reclaims Dept - Federal Govt in Sydney, and offering repayment of $5,248 for Commonwealth bank fees and utilities fees overcharges over 3 years. He had name and address. Requested I call Dept Manager Rebecca Brown on (02) 8091 4944 and submit Ref Code MH105 to get payment.When I called I was answered by Indian accented woman who gave same spiel and asked how I wanted the money paid -by bank transfer or cheque. I said by cheque - she gave me a Cheque no. 17023 and said it would be delivered by a Richard Lee. I said I wanted it mailed, not delivered - she said to stop wasting her time ! No request was made to make a payment - scary if they actually front up to people's places ! BEWARE !!
