"I had a call from 'the reclaim dept of the federal gov', telling me that I have be overcharged on purchased that I have made. She called me by my name. and then asked for my DOB. she said I could have the money deposited or a chq sent to me. I opted the chq... she gave me my address. I was doubting to believe her, but stupidly gave her my DOB. she then gave me a case no, and a name that I couldn't understand because of her heavy accent (another reason to doubt her) and said the money would come on a CBA cheque. So, I rang the number, the next lady asked for the case number, then my name.... I then said, but if the other lady already knew my name, how come you don't? she also tried to reassure me that they work for the federal gov, and that the call is being recorded. I asked how can you prove to me its being recorded, she said you have to trust me that it is, and that this is the reclaim dept of the fed gov.... and when I said oh so I can tell you im Charlie brown and you are going to believe me... she hung up, I tried calling back three times, no answer!!
1st lady rings me, and says did you ring, I said yes, but she hung up when I told her I wasn't confident this wasn't a scam. again she tried to reassure me and told me to call. I told her that I had tried 3 times, and that in the mean time, I was looking up Telstra's number to have their number checked and the CBA to know if they have seen cheques being sent out for this reason.... again she reminded me who she was, I said ok ok, I tried to re call out of curiosity, the phone rang twice and then hung up..... IT PROVES TO ME THEY ARE A SCAM.... BECAREFUL

You will all be pleased to know that I started trolling them back. I continually called them back and got all my friend too as well. This number no longer works (for the meantime anyway).

I know its annoying but you have to play them at their own game to get them to piss off.

I called scam watch Australia after receiving the initial call, they confirmed that it is a scam. I also used to work for the ATO so can recognise traits of a scam. Moments later the initial caller called me back and asked haven't I called the number he gave me, I told him straight up that I'm aware of the scam and any further contact will be documented and reported, he tried hard to reassure me that it's not a scam but when I told him that I worked for the ATO he hung up.

My mum received a call from thr"claims dept of the federal gov." Mum called me with her case file number and when I called back with the case number they couldn't retrieve my file unless I stated all my details again. The lady was quite aggressive when I questioned her that they have my case number so why do I need to give all my details again.
Apparently I had to pay $610 at the Post Office by close of business if I wanted my $6k refund. The $610 was for legal fees.... lawyers based overseas! When would the Australian Gov use o/s lawyers for this?
Total scam so please be careful. Mum is reporting this to the police.

This person called my mother as well. When I called back there was message saying that the person wasn't available and to leave a message after the beep. Needless to say, I didn't leave a message.

I have received 3 calls today from the same company wanting my DOB and my account details. As I am elderly they started to confuse me, so I asked them to call me back. I then called my daughter who is helping me. This is a scam and disgusting they pry on people. They should get out and get a job like we had to when we were young.

Exact same thing happened to me yesterday. But when I didn't call the number they gave me to call - which I was supposed to do immediately and give them my case reference number, I had two calls from overseas (caller ID showed up overseas). I didn't bother answering either of these calls because if they know who I am and how much money I'm owed, wouldn't they send it to me anyway. They seem to know so much about me.
