I had a message from this number saying they were from Australian Immigration and there was a legal issue and left an id number, but in the message there was no identification of me as an individual. I tried to ring the number back, it would ring twice and then go to a busy signal - very weird

Just experienced Stella and my return call went unanswered! It seems the current scams are hinged on "scaring people" - over the last 4 weeks I have received several calls from ATO, Immigration and Border protection agency advising me of the law suits against me! I even called ATO the first time it happened only to be advised that they haven't made the call! There is an ATO web page on this as well.

Had automated message saying there is a current ATO court case being filed and please call (02) 8073 0590. Rang number but no one ever answered.

Weird automated female voice left a message saying that i had to contact the ATO as a legal case had been opened and that i was being taken to court, they left a phone number (02) 8073 0590. They never referred to my actual name.

got a computer voice (female) with a message saying a lawsuit had been filed against me by aust. taxation office . Sounds like a scam to me

Receives automated generic voice message from this number (02) 8073 0590 claiming Australian Tax Office had a case and requesting a call back on this number (repeating the phone number back twice. nothing was personalised, no names or references. I guess they scam this out of people when they ring back. "Please give me your personal details and I will look up your files!!!!".

Stella Dawson left message stating she was from ATO - I work for ATO and know the outbound call scripting. So I rang the ATO switch to report it and they confirmed it is a scam.

You can forward suspect scams to ReportEmailFraud @ ato.gov.au (link sends e-mail) or call the ATO during business hours on 1800 060 062 to discuss a suspected scam.

Why not have some fun with these people. They are obviously fishing for someone naïve enough to pay them the money they will eventually demand. You cannot have arrest warrants issued for unpaid debts to anyone, even the ATO.

Tell them you are happy to be arrested and what time would they like you dressed and ready to be arrested as you just wanted to have a last shag with your wife/husband/secretary/lover and you would make sure that it was all done with by the time they arrived.

I got a similar message as above.
The person identifies himself as Austin/Oscar with ID number 1000364 speaking in American accent claiming that he is calling from ATO and telling that there is a case file and an arrest warrant against me. He asks me to call him back on (02) 8073 0590 before cops come. Please note that the number of digits are 9 only.
Should I complaint to Police?

I had a phone message from a man saying he was from the ATO and that I have a case file open regarding a tax error. They tell you the case file number and ask you to call back using the (02) 8073 0590 number. If you don't call back then you will be responsible for the consequences! Then tell you to have a nice day!

This number called and claimed to be from department of immigration. As a joke I played on. The guy put me on hold so I just hung up. Within 20 seconds the same guy called and said he was from ATO and he did the same thing. Weird thing was that they never asked me for money

"Jack Smith" from the ATO advising me I may be arrested.

The caller said she is from Australian Tax Office bu could not tell what department. When asked the she swear and hang up. Checking the caller id and did rang the number. A man picked the phone. I asked what company is this number he replied Canberra, ATO. When I asked what department, he hang up. I did this twice.
The first call was asking for an individual initial and surname. Not looking for specific person.
