The number is a dialer used for legitimate charity fundraising.

This particular number is used by Fred Hollows, Guide Dogs for the Blind, the RSPCA, and Amnesty International among others.

I used to work for one of these organisations. If you are being hung up on that is most likely because there is a note in the system that you are either someone who abuses charities over the phone, or you continually block a call meant for your spouse, not you, pretending that person doesn't exist or is always "in the shower" etc.

THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO if you do not want to receive the calls, is to always take the call then say politely "I am not interested, can you please take me off the list". The agent will then be happy to hit F5+NEVERCALL and you will be removed from the system. This is totally at the fundraisers discretion, so be polite and don't be abusive.

Charities are exempt from the DNCR, are allowed to call private numbers, unlisted numbers, and any other kind of number. Your Government allows this and Telstra and big data companies provide your number, for a fee of course.

I don't care how polite you are being and how polite you tell others to be.
I PAY for a 'silent number' and that's how it should be treated.
So people calling me should expect me to be pissed off!!

Got a call from this number July 9, 2015 claiming to be on behalf of the RSPCA. Began by asking me if I was aware of the greyhound live baiting issue. The style of conversation was along the lines of "Yeah mate, we are selling raffle tickets with prizes of $5000 blah blah blah" at which point I became disinterested. The "yeah mate" style put me off. I have no idea if this is legitimate but I'm not one for agreeing to donate or buy stuff on the face of a phone call.

As in my response to John.
I pay for a silent number and I expected my privacy to be kept.
This person phoned me and didn't even bother speaking . . . until I told them it was Effing rude to phone someone's private residence and not introduce yourself.
If you want RESPECT begin by giving RESPECT!!!

This is the number that the RSPCA have called me on whenever I've donated or bought raffle tickets and such, it's not a scam. Said I didn't want to do a phone donation, and asked they email me regarding this stuff in the future, had no dramas at all. Some of these commenters should try not being d*ckheads and learn some communication skills.

Some people really make stupid comments about calls.

If you have a silent number, they wouldn't be able to call you, unless you have provided your number somewhere, such as on a raffle ticket or have made a donation in the past.

If you don't want a charity to call you again, simply tell the operator while you are on the phone or contact the charity directly and ask them to remove you from the database.

Either action would take less time and be more productive than having a rant in here.

Registered charities are exempt from the Do Not Call Register.

Legitimate number or not the least they can do is talk to me. I ask several times "who is calling" and received no reply. In the finish I said F...k off and hung up.

I object to charities asking for more money when I already donate. Enough is enough

Guys,

This seemingly friendly advice from 'John' is total bollocks. There is no such thing whereby charities have a 'note in the system' for abusive or otherwise troublesome people, who then go ahead and call those people only to hangup the moment the person answers. That would achieve absolutely nothing and only be wasting the time and money of the callers. The bizarre implication here is that you've pissed them off and they are 'revenge' calling you! What nonsense.

Legit charity call center. I work here, we call for RSPCA selling raffle entries. It's been going for a long time. If you don't want the calls answer the phone and nicely ask the operator to take you off the calling list, we are ordinary aussies just like you! Numbers are obtained through legitimate data companies and public directories which can be easily found online. All charity call centers are exempt from do not call register and can call private numbers. While can be annoying none of it is illegal or this place wouldn't be going for as long as it has. This one is actually australian owned too and one of the few that pays their employees properly (no one is getting rich though) and treats them with respect. Its actually bit of a charity itself in that it gives everyone a go no matter how old or young or life circumstances.
