This just happened to me too. John Anderson. Same amount. I said I wanted a cheque to be sent, but he insisted that I needed to tell him which bank I preferred. I told him it didn't make any difference if he was writing a cheque. If he calls me again he will regret it. Pamela Peterson must be run off her feet as I am meant to call her too on (02) 8007 4754.

He also asked for DOB - would that give them access to accounts if they have the home address? Surely not?

Had a call in regards to overpayment of interest from my bank and the government wants to give it back, yeah right! The indian man was named John Anderson, told me to call (02) 8007 4754 and speak to Pamela Peterson and I would get my check for %5248.00 in the next 24hrs. Did not call as luckily I was on the computer at the time and I googled Austrlain Reclaim Dept and this site ame up. Thankyou

same story as everyone else, wanted to know how far from post office I was, took me 2 minutes to realise not selling anything , was pleasantly surprised to get scamming phone call and not telemarketing, nice for a change, asked for number, 80067799, didn't call, awaiting my cheque, good timing as its my birthday soon, yippee, he was a nice indian man

I got a call from a Indian man and then a women rang me to say I had been over charged by the goverment and my bank and was going to get $5248.00 dollars back. Only a certain amount of people would be getting this and I had to go to the post office and pay $299.00 dollars for the overseas lawyer and the cheque would come to my door. She said she was from Pamela Peterson, Level 2 Pitt street, Sydney Nsw, 2000. Australian Reclaim Expert.
I had to now to pay the money from Western union as the lawyers here were too expensive. I rang my bank and they credit union and they said "ring the police". So, this is a SCAM".

They are still at it. Had a phone call this afternoon, Indian sounding male, saying he was from the Reclaims Department, and that he had a cheque for $5,200 from the Fed. Gov. for reimbursement from hidden charges such as electricity, gas, phone, etc. - I played dumb for a while, then told him he had a bad connection to get him to repeat everything, lol. He also said that we should have received a letter, which of course we didn't. Told him to send out another one. Wanted my birth date, after giving me my address, though he got the Post Code WRONG!!! Told him that he should have that as he had everything else. Well he got a bit rude with his attitude - same deal, Ref no PT171, address in Pitt Street, Lv 2, 123 Angel Street, Sydney. These morons need to be stopped. Decided to check up whether this site exists and came across this site and a couple of others. Thanks.

This scam is still getting around. I got a call from 'Milan Sojovski (sp?)' with a slav accent, stating that I was going to get a refund of $5248 for over-charging by the Govt on GST, fees, etc over the last 2 years. Said he was from the Reclaiming (sic) Dept of the Federal Govt, from CentreLink, Pitt St Sydney. They were going to send a cheque to my home address which he quoted to me, and gave me a reference number PT171. He knew who I banked with and wanted to confirm my DoB. He gave me the names of his managers, Julia Joseph and Catherine Douglas and asked me to call them on (02) 8006 7799 to confirm the payment. I called my bank instead and warned them, and I reported it to ASIC. A rep from my bank rang the number and got through to a woman with an indian voice who hung up on her.
'Milan' rang back a few hours later to check if I had called his managers yet, so I let him have some verbal abuse before he hung up on me.
It sounds like an information fishing/identity fraud scam.

My dad received a call from these guys today,the man told him that there was an overpayment, from his bank of $5500. This is the number that they gave him, phone number was (02) 8006 0846, Shirley Collins was the contact, Australian Reclaim Dept, I rang the number and got someone call Rebecca,asked me if I call the first or second time, indian accent. I must have sounded nosey, and she did what to talk to me. Hang up do listen to them, it is a scam.

Just had call from Slavin Gillard - same garb as above, giving me an approval no. to quote and to speak to his supervisor, Grace on (02) 8005 7284 who would confirm everything and send my cheque this afternoon. He had my name and address and wanted me to tell him my age as confirmation of who I am. Said he was from the Australian Reclaim Dept.
His accent was not Indian but some other Asian accent.

I received a call from Veronica yesterday with a refund of $5248.00 yesterday and today a call from Michael trying to tell me the same amount will be refunded. I told him he already has my details and to just send a cheque and put the phone down without hanging up

I have also had a call earlier today and been told $5200.48of refunded interest on bank account if I call her manager on 8003 7595 and give them an application no and a cheque will arrive in 48 hours. I got in touch with my bank to alert them. Then she called back 1.1/2 hrs later saying I had not called when I asked her address she gave me Level 2 Angel Place, 123 Pitt St Sydney

last night an indian accented lady called Rachel called and said Aust Govt had an amount of $5248.00 owing to me as a refund for bank charges that were illegal. She told me to call her manager a lady called'Shirley Collins'.phone no/ (02) 8006 0277 today. which out of curiosity I did. she told me to move $199.00 at the post office via western union . My B/S radar was already raised but this just confirmed it ..Total scam!

17/8/12 - A few mintes ago, an Indian lady called Veronica claimed to be from Reclaim Export Dept Australian Govt wants to refund my bank overcharges of around $5000 - either by cheque or direct credit. I asked her several probing/difficult questions. She hung up.

I just received a call from an Indian woman by the name of Katherine Rogers claiming to be from the Reclaim Export Department of the Australian Government....what a crock of #&%!...the woman told me that i had been selected by the government to pay me the fees that had been unduly charged to me when using my keycard to make transactions as well as our internet banking etc...She had most of my details, and also told me that she had my mobile number but that I needed to tell her so that she could confirm that it was me...the payment amount was $5438...When I asked to contact someone she told me to call (02) 8011 3830 and speak to her manager and to quote SR111 as an application code, so they could release the money...She called back 15 min later and asked if i had called,when i told her that I had checked it out on the internet and it was a scam...SHE HUNG UP !! stay away from this one...The government Doesn't work like that!

I got a similar call (June 2012) stating the banks had over charged and they were refunding the amount of $ 5048
and asked for the date of birth and bank.

If its too good to be true it probably is!

They don't seem to be stopping.Why is the authorities not doing something about it??
