Same as all the above. Do not give them any details. These guys have a strong Indian accent; you'll pick these guys up straight away. They avoid any questions regarding their identity. Ask them, who they are first and they'll just hang up

Just got a call from this number - same scam. Indian fellow called. I asked for the phone number and name of his "Govt Department". I phoned back with a reference number and spoke to his Manager. In the meantime, I had looked up the number in Reverse Australia and saw your comments. I asked the Manager (Asian) for the name of the business again and he said "Reclaim Expert Department for the Australian Government". I said his phone number was listed as a "scam". He had beautiful manners and said "Thank you Ma'am" before hanging up. Rang Federal Police and was put through to ACCC who are looking after Scam Watch. They said it was off-shore. They also said not to fret about giving out date-of-birth details, as this is easily available in the public arena. They said the scam is usually a few calls down the line when they ask for a $200 transfer fee to lodge this "$5,000" odd amount.

What a shame that the Police don't visit the people who are paying the rental for this phone line.

Received call from Felix claiming very similar story to the ones above. Very persistant and pursuasive. Claim to be from gov. dep. which is obviously not true. Contact the police about this scam!

A male with very strong accent and little english - phoned my elderly mum - didn't catch his name. he wanted to know what her account number is so that they could send a chq to reimburse her for all the outgoing payments she is making sayin she is paying too much interest or something of the like. Told her a Sam Adams would call later on to get her details. This person did call later on this day and suggested that the government owed her $5000. wanted an account to send the money to or go to the post office to get some sort of form to give authority to send money by giving the bak details. My Mum is 81 but she's not stupid. she called me to follow up what it was about. This Sam Adams gave a phone number, which was not available to be answered. BIG, BIG SCAM........

Blair

Just received a call saying that I had to ring (02) 8006 0277 and had to quote TH21 to a manager to get $5248. They claimed it was being done thro the Australian Gov.They also got me to give them my DOB .The had all my other details already.Tho they did ask whether I was emplyed or on a pension etc.The whole thing sounds fishy (the usual Indian accent on the other end of the phone)

CP

Hassled my old parents and promised them $5000 to come in a cheque in the next couple of days. Tricked my Mum into giving her data of birth, i don't what they are going to do with that. I warned, if they ring again and ask for more info, don't give it.

kevan

wants to give it to me as well

jd

who and why are you wanting to give me $5248

Damnnmnmn

I got this call today also. How do they get this info?

Cassie

Yep same thing happened to us.  Although the first call they asked questions but really only had our name and address.  We gave a false birth date.  He asked which bank we use and we gave the name.
