They claim to be from the ato and said I am up in tax fraud and there is a warrant for my arrest!!???? Very dodgy!!!

Tax Office scam call. Rang twice, first call pretended not to hear. Second call after I googled phone number and found what sort of call it was. My answer - you're good with the BS this morning - then he hung up.

Got three calls from this number today. On answering the first two, a recorded message played saying I had to call the number back regarding money I owed the ATO.
When I called back, a man with an Indian accent answered the phone and said "Australian taxation office, how can I help you". When I told him he can't be from the ATO, he started talking dirty and I hung up. A scam for sure and I hope these guys are taken to task

On the 3rd September 2015 I received a call from this number posing as the ATO. This is a scam.

My wife got a call from one Mr. Roger Smith from ATO threatening her that ATO is sending the police because we have committed a tax fraud. He asked her to pay $4270.18 otherwise the police may recover penalties upto $20,000. He finally took my full name. Because wife was scared, I'm expecting him to call back. I've tutored her on how to respond. A friend did tell me about this scam few days ago. My mistake I didn't tell my wife.

Same as above, the indian man claims he is from the ATO and then wants me to help him out by telling him if it was a home number or a mobile number that they called.. LOL

Exactly the same as everyone else. I had a call this afternoon and hung up on him and now they have left a message asking me to call them back. Hope they investigate this.

Me too! Scarred the life out of me. The accent and the bad line was a give away. The message by Ron Watson an american and the cal was by Allen Parker an indian??? Rude and intimidating. I complained to the ATO.

Yeah, total BS scammer. As soon as I hear the long pause and soft click of an autodialler I just hang up. If its a legitimate call, they will call back.
That's why I took the second call, recognised the number and sat through the wait to be asked if so and so was home.
'May be..who's calling?'
'Oh This is such and such from the Australian Tax Office......'
I'd heard enough by then to release it was a scam- don't give them the time of day, just hang up. They may have a hook to make you double take, ie a baited hook!
Autodiallers are easily recognised, save yourself the trouble and hang up if no one is there to immediately respond when you answer. Favourite of scammers the world over https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto_dialer

I got a call this morning from a foreign sounding man claiming he was from the ATO and saying I was in big trouble with my taxes and he asked if I had a lawyer etc. He didn't even ask who I was before telling me all this. I told him I knew it was a scam. He didn't respond or deny it.

I hope police investigate this number!

Mind you they were leaving messages on husbands mobile for me but when I said your calling husband mobile re myself they would hang up

Yep - They called me twice today. The worrying thing is they had my full name, address and phone number. I spoke to the ATO who are looking into it. The dead give away with these morons is the fact that they readily disclose your address and phone number to you if you ask who they want. Public servants should never do that for privacy and security reasons.

They asked me for my solicitor's name and address because they said the ATO were going to sue me.

They called yesterday and left a voicemail for my elderly Mother in QLD, a caller with a foreign accent quoting a full name and said they were calling from ATO Sydney office. The rest of the message was the same, along the lines of investigating my Mother for tax fraud.

I've now received 4 calls - the last was a message (which did sound recorded) on my home phone answering service. They claim they are from the legal department of the Tax Office. We have no outstanding tax debt & the ATO confirmed they never ring - always write re debts even if something is outstanding. Another scam!!!

Two messages recorded on my phone from them today. Both automated voices saying it was the ATO and they would get the legal people on to me if I didn't call back! Definitely a scam! Don't even bother calling back this number! 😡
