Same as above -- called me and said that they, the Crimes Investigations office at the ATO, had received an affidavit against me and were surveilling my house. Shocking stuff! Surely this must be illegal.

Scam... wanted details and when I didn't give them they got frustrated and hung up. Not ATO number.

Oh my, I answered this call as it was from Sydney... recorded message that I had been named as a suspect in a tax crime investigation and my house was under surveillance and that if I didn't call the number they provided I would be prosecuted or something. Anyway, I missed the number but ended up calling the actual number back. Some guy answered "Tax Crime Investigation". I asked if he was the ATO and he said yes. Then asked my name. I asked for his name again... He said "If you don't want to give me you f*cking name just f*ck off and hung up. Why I even bothered calling back is because I actually got my tax refund back today... ??!?!?!

Had the same message today to my mobile phone. It sounds bogus

Received a call this morning from a very well produced recording claiming to be the legal division of the ATO and that it is important for me to ring back on (02) 6169 1016 as I have an affidavit lodged against me. My first thought was that the police have finally found out that I'm fabulous and I will be jailed accordingly as it's currently illegal to live your life without socialists bashing you into submission. But then I spoke to the ATO and was told it's a scam. So, my journey to live life fabulously continues...

Just got this call. Surely this is illegal somehow and that number can be traced and prosecuted by the ATO?

Do not return the call or hang up if this person claims to be from the ATO working with the Federal police on tax penalties. Scam and they want you to pay them money. Hang up.

Yep. Same message about house under surveillance here. Ignored. Please warn others and note they are probably using a VOIP number which can be changed easily.

Also got a call from them. Australian accent saying I had to pay money to the ATO. My house was under surveillance. I was stupid and called back. A guy told me I had to pay money or go to federal court - but couldn't supply and paper work detailing the problem with my tax records. I realised late in the conversation and went and googled the number. Glad to have the re assurance of websites like this. Thanks.

Got the same call this morning. Called it back and dude answered saying his name was Edward Hoffman. When I pried for more he hung up on me. WTH?!

Received a robo call (recorded message with auto dialler) claiming to be from the ATO, requesting a call back as there was an affidavit against me.

Obvious scam - hopefully no one is falling for this.

Called back was hung up on 4 times,, now not answering my phone calls,.. Low life scum!

Mechanical voice claiming to be from ATO Tax Crimes and threatening blah blah blah. Indian accent male immediately asked for my details. When I asked for some way to validate that he was the ATO he insisted he was the Tax Crimes unit and then hung up on me.

Received a call from this number - looked up this website - great to have feedback. Anyone know where to report these scams? These people should be prosecuted for making a living based on lying, cheating and taking opportunity of others.

Received this scam phone call this morning, claiming to be from the Australian Tax Office. It sounded like a recorded message as bits were being repeated. I immediately hung up, as the ATO usually post you letters, not phone you out of the blue. Googled the (02) 6169 1016 number, and surprise, surprise, look at all these other scam complaints about that number.
