Got the same call, telling my father has debts and fraud charges for unpaid taxes, and is going to jail etc. bit unfortunate that he's dead. Should get there facts right before they call.

Its a Scam,

I answered the call he said he was from ATO and i asked which dept as i too work for the ATO and he had called another internal ATO Dept then hang up....

I received a prerecorded message about tax evasion and they will press charges if I don't call back. Whatever, I know my financials inside and out as that is what I do for a living... I hope no one gets scammed by these people.

I just received same call.I phoned the number and abused the guy as he knew was caught out.He left 3 messages in total

It's not an individual, it was a call centre, definitely in India. I have called it twice and gotten two different people, and could hear a very busy call centre in the background. Both times I gave false information, both times they said my number wasn't listed with them.

Be sure to call the AFP and Crime Stoppers (and your local PD) and report this if they call you. If you don't they'll keep doing this forever. It's up to you, right now, make the calls.

The dude who answered identified himself as 'Officer Peter Williams from the ATO' I was like "Sorry, was that Peter Williams?" "Yes, OFFICER Peter Williams." I kept it straight and gave them a fake phone number and name and they couldn't find me on their file. It was weird. I wanted them to try and pull their scam on me but nothing, nada, zip. :( Someone give me their phone number and let me troll them!

I had the same message, which I ignored, then a phone call. When I answered and said that my phone showed his number was from overseas, and that I would have expected a call from the ATO to come from Australia, the 'Officer' called me a disgusting name - so I just hung up. Charming!

Got to the same messages left for me today by a man staring he was from the ATO and criminal cases had been started against someone in the house, we don't know who because he didn't stipulate a name saying we committed taxing tax fraud overseas, never worked overseas, ATO doesn't call from overseas as caller ID showed although he left the 02 number, seriously all wrong but I guess some people get caught

Thank goodness for a search on the Internet! I too was called up - with a man stating I had a seriously bad issue with the ATO, and I needed to call them back urgently or face the consequences. But after seeing this discussion I don't have to panic.

Got a similar message left on my answering machine stating the call was from the ATO. They asked to return the call or face the legal consequences as a criminal case has been lodged against me for tax evasion and tax fraud.

Some very bad Asian accented man - claiming to be from ATO & he is following up on tax fraud case against you! Absolute rubbish & obviously a HOAX!

Searched this up - ATO wishes to be advised of any calls as he is a known scammer and the legal action pending will more than likely be experienced by said 'Jason Smith' or any other variant of his name.

Same Phone Call From Aggressive Swedish Sounding Make Threatening Legal Action For Tax Evasion

An Irish man left a message on voicemail saying he was from the ATO calling re: Tax Evasion Fraud. We Didn't call back after reading others comments left on this website

how can we as Australians actually get the address of these f##kwits and have the AFP arrest these morons We received a call from the ITO SCAM. I would love to get a hold of these pricks and really F##k them up.

Had a few calls this afternoon from some Irish guy claiming the same thing - serious fraud charges pending against me. Funny coincidence because I put my tax return in a week ago. Maybe my accountants or ATO computer has been hacked.

Received a message claiming they were from the ATO and that I had pending allegations against my name regarding taxes and to call them at this number before they issue a federal arrest warrant. Called and the number & found a very aggressive male person going through many things that didn't add up. Did a reverse check on the number & when I said I had just check their number & it was coming up as fraudulent they hung up. I then rang ATO & they confirmed it was a scam.
