I was told to call this number by someone who said they were from Department of Human Services (representing Centrelink) about payments and pensions and assets. It sounded vaguely real so I called the number and it was answered by someone who sounded like they were in an Indian call centre. When I said that the number was not listed the response was to hang up. DO NOT GIVE THESE CRIMINALS YOUR INFORMATION. They are organised crime gangs ripping off innocent Australians and the government is powerless to stop it.

Call from 'private number'. went on to an automated message from 'centrelink'. Option to press 1 or 2, upon pressing 1, was bombarded with crap about an increase in pension rates and they have been trying to contact me with no response. At the end of call quoted reference number 080456 and phone number 02 61450 391, to contact their head office in Canberra.

shocked that my experience with phone number (02) 6145 0391 (reference no:080456) is the same as reported! What are the consequences now for us as elderly retired folk? These scammers are indeed immoral scum!

I received a recorded message yesterday afternoon on my landline phone - the same as the others reported (same call back No and reference No). It is generated by a computer and will disconnect in 4 or 5 seconds if you say nothing when answering. I have had lots of auto-calls and I normally don't say anything for a few seconds but I was expecting a call and got caught out. TRY NOT SAYING ANYTHING FOR A FEW SECONDS.

I am responding on behalf of an aged pensioner who was very concerned that on listening to the recording that the Department of Human Services in Canberra needed to speak to this person, and if she did not call back it would affect her pension. I did reassure her not to give any personal information over the phone, that Government Departments always correspond by mail or to directly contact Centre Link with any concerns about pensions. Thanks for leaving comments, most reassuring.

A recorded phone call from Centrelink said to phone (02) 6145 0391 and give application number 080456 as the pension had been underpaid. When I phoned this number I was told I had an appointment tomorrow with a Sylvia Johnson at Caringbah Centrlink and that I needed to pay a registration fee. This sounded suspicious to be and I challenged the speaker. I rang the police and was told to report it to scamwatch.

I got a call and told the exactly same story as the above described. Asked me call (02) 6145 0391 and the reference number is 080456. When I called this number, the other side said currently the service is not available.

Same call, same "reference number". I suspect they are trying to cull bank details and that some vulnerable pensioners could fall for this. I'm reporting to Scamwatch.

See my other message above.
I've since rang the Police on 131444 & spoke to a lovely lady who told me to contact www.scamwatch.gov.au and report it.

I rang 02, 61450391 (a Canberra number) twice and was hung up on both times by Indian sounding people who mocked me and my scornful attitude towards them. If this is legit I'm John Lennon.

Same scam deal. 'We sent you correspondence regarding your Centrelink pension which you didn't respond to, now you have to ring Canberra on (02) 6145 0391' stating a reference number he gave me.
Just let him do his spiel then hung up.
Bastards!!!
