I received a recorded message on my answering machine. It was a man with an overseas accent saying 'we are affiliated to the Australian Taxation Office and we are trying to reach you in regards to an important issue as we have received a copy of an affidavit concerning tax evasion on your name. So I need you to call us back on our number (02) 6140 3411. I repeat (02) 6140 3411. Don't disregard this message and do return the call as delay in calling us back might end up into legal prosecutions for you. Further we would be forced to contact state of territory authorities who will detain you for further investigation. So I hope that you justify in this matter as quickly as possible. Thank you and have a good day."
Having worked in the prosecutions area of the ATO, I know that they do not operate like this at all.
Please spread this message around to friends and colleagues especially the elderly as I am aware of one elderly lady being caught out by this. Luckily in her case, her daughter visited shortly after her mother had given her bank account details and they were able to cancel her cards but an inconvenience to her

I also received a call saying he was from ATO he had a accent indian or similar saying an issue regarding tax evasion and what was I going to do about it I said I don't believe your are from the ATO and I would call them which I did they said they do not do business in that way and it was a scam the number was (02) 6140 3411

I too got a message on my answering machine about a month ago and all the information they sprouted was the same. Told my accountant the other day and he said to google the number. The ATO send you correspondence in the mail, never over the phone.

Just received a recorded message from (02) 6140 3411 saying all the same things. I think the accent is a dead giveaway. Someone trying their hardest to sound English is their first language. If you listen carefully they use words that an Australian from the tax office just wouldn't say. I feel sorry for the people who believe them.

Just received a call from the above number requesting to talk to a Mr Hill.
I replied he has been dead twenty years.
Response can I speak to Mr Hill.
The heavily Indian accented male then stated he was from the Australian Taxation Office.
I asked where he got this number from.
Response can I speak to Mr Hill.
I said he's been dead twenty years you F-wit.
The caller then hung up.

Now the number here is a business and we do not know a Mr Hill.
We have had this number since 2002.

So obviously their data is from an out of date data disc with phone numbers and addresses that's so old its stupid!
We were offered the same type of data disc some time ago and refused to purchase it.

Personally scum like this should be deported!

They are also using number (02) 6100 3039. I got the automated recording saying to call back about the Tax investigation. Obviously a scam but I called back to see if I would get a real person and to tell them what I thought. A bloke answered and asked for my details and I asked how they could sleep at night ripping off innocent people. He said he didn't know what I was talking about - but when I persisted and asked how he could sit on a phone line trying to extort money from people he turned abusive calling me a 'camel f***er' and a 'donkey f***er'! Never been called either of those things before! Very sad that there are so many scumbags out there willing to earn a living by harming others.

Received a msg asking to call ATO back on (02) 6140 3411. Looked up ATO numbers - they have nothing like this. Rang the number and when pushed them about the nature of the matter, they hung up. Very dodgy. Intend to contact ATO next working day and let them know.

Just had the same call from Mr Matthews. phillipine accent .he talked over me and then told me to call (02) 6140 3411 . Disregard as this has to be a scam.

Same number. Said I wasn't home so could I take a message ( for me), told me to call back (02) 6140 3411. I asked who was calling and foreign man said ATO about a tax audit. I told him ATO have Australians working there whose accents I can actually understand. The line was very fuzzy. Not a nice feeling. I'm on DNC register. Will report the number.

Just had the same people call asking for my name date of birth and tax file number to confirm with their details and prove my identity!!!! I told them to give me their details first, they hung up lol.

Scam. They use a number of phone numbers (02) 6140 3475, (02) 6140 3486, (02) 6100 8186, (02) 6152 8628 and probably many more. Just think about it. If you owe the ATO money they will mail something to you. Only ring them through the numbers list in the phone book or on the web site.

Just got this same message 2/10/15. Thought it would be a scam so I disregarded it and thought I would just check out the number to see if anyone else had been contacted by them. Don't be fooled always check details and companies out first before giving out info

Received a call from (02) 6140 3411 quoting tax office problem please call back, didn't return call as suspected scam, why can't they be located ?

Contacted my 94 year old neighbour. Claiming to be from ATO. Similar story " you owe money give us your credit card details or cheque". She was on the ball and knew it was a scam. They seem to be contacting a lot of " elderly " people or are people of all ages getting these calls too?

Scammers pretending to be ATO audit section who have found problem with tax and want immediate payment to prevent action in High Court. Funny really......! I am a tax inspector!!!!

If I can obtain my address from my phone number on this site, why can't I get any information on (02) 6140 3411 except to say that it is used by the same scammers that told me the same story about the ATO and CDPP wanting to arrest me for tax evasion.
