just got a call from an Indian lady, saying she was from the ATO, and that I was successful in getting a $10,000 grant from the federal government! Sounded too good to be true, and I told her that, so she gave me a number to call in Canberra (02) 6100 3584. I called, and spoke to a guy with a heavy Indian accent. I tried to confirm that he really was from the ATO, and asked him for my TFN number.....which he said he didn't have cause it was in a "different department". Alarm bells were deafening by this point, so I told him I wasn't interested and hung up.

A call said to be from ATO Canberra said in his Indian accent that owner of my telephone No has got the prize of $ 7500.I was also told that the prize will be paid by the Federal Govt of Australia. I was to get a call from caller's supervisor for further details from me within half hour.
No call came. When the original caller rang again, I questioned him to give his telephone No. He asked me to wait a second. Then he disconnected the call.

I got a call today from (02) 6100 3286. Telling me we had won $8600 grant. I knew this was a scam so I called ATO and informed them.

Same here, got a phone call from a lady with indian accent wanting me to call the Canbera Number for 6400 govt grant. All spam. Got to know from this site. The comments here are really useful.

Me exactly the same and when called back the number it goes for a ring and then prompted with a message "The caller not available and please leave your message after the beep: 100% fraud and should make it a case and file to VIC police with all our signatures to make it strong for investigation. What say??

Got a call around midday from a person with an Indian accent (fairly abrupt) saying that I'll be getting $6400 from ato as long as i dont spend on gumbling etc you have to call now my boss Aus by ringing (02) 6100 4079 and quoting a reference number. Yeah right!

got the same thing, apparently Julia Gillard was happy that i paid my bills on time so the qld government was going to reward me with $6400. As if! Gave me a ref number A526 but then changed that to A2526 and asked me to call (02) 6100 4079 to claim my money, as long as i didn't spend it on anything illegal. Why would the qld govt want me to call new south wales for money? Also to person who said this wasn't a scam and that your credit card number could win you a prize..silly man!

I just got a call from an Canberra (02) 6100 4079 saying she was from the ATO, and that I was successful in getting a $6400 grant from the federal government! Sounded too good to be true, and I was told to send $250 for poor children in the name of UNICEF Organisation through Western Union by Today only and then only she will give me a confidential number. With that number I will get a cheque of $6400 from Commonwealth Bank. I was told not to discuss with anyone as it is confidential. When I check online this number I found so many complaints and the same conversation. This is really Fraud so be careful.

reveiced call that i won $10,000 from ATO and I can call (02) 6100 3584 to get my price....i just gooed this number and found that is a hoax....

Gotta call from Unknown number and said the same story about credit rating paying bills, taxes and stuff on time and have no criminal records has result in $10000 grant from federal Department Canberra. Then when I asked him for his detail he gave Name as Chris Bryan with his Emp id A860 0055 and call Reference number A840 as reference number and ask me to call on (02) 6100 3584 Canberra to ATO head office. I rang on the number and I can clearly hear the previous guy with same tone calling others (probably small tiny little call centre lol..) and this another blog repeat the same story and start asking first name for the Cheque to be made from one of ATO’s bank account which is only in ANZ, CBA & Westpac (idiot don’t know ATO only have acc. in Reserve bank)

same here!! when i asked him how can i be sure you are from tax office and asked me to tell my tax file number on his record. He paniced!!! waste of time

No, it's not a scam. What you do is give them all your credit card numbers and if yours is selected you win a prize.

I got a call from Chris Bryan (he came on the line after I said I couldn't understand the first guy) telling me that 1200 people have randomly been selected by the Federal Government to receive a grant of $10,000 - apparently every 5 years this happens!!!???!! He was claiming to be from the Australian Taxation Office, and I had to ring (02) 6100 4079 to confirm that I am the right person. I was also given a reference number. It made no sense and I was suspicious so I didn't ring.
