Scammer claiming to be from ATO, he asks for personal details and says you'll be arrested if you don't give them to him

Looks like it is going around. Messaged left to call back for tax evasion. Did a google search for the number and found this! Scam obviously.

Received a call from this number at 2-30 pm to-day(24-6-2016) urging me or my "attorney" to call this number or risk being penalised for tax evasion. The got a call from the Australian Atomic Bomb Testing Authority.

Person with an Indian accent left a message on our answering machine today. We are in southern NSW. DO NOT REPLY.

22/7/16. I just returned from holidays and found this my answering machine. rang back, the number has ben disconnected... I guess he'll try another number.

Got the call , knew it was a scam but kept him going for twenty five minutes. When asked his name he told me in an Asian accent , Joy Butler !

Yes multiple calls - I don't answer but keeps ringing - were on do not call list & private number so no idea how they got our number!

I received a telephone message on my home telephone answering service from a caller purporting to be from The Australian Taxation Office.

He claimed that a suit is filed against me for tax evasion and demanded that I or my attorney telephone this number: (02) 6064 2068

Did not call the number, but reported the call details by email to: ReportEmailFraud @ ato.gov.au

same here, almost threatening, if i dont reply there will be consequences. great to have the internet to check on these creeps.

Same as the others listed here. As if ATO would not write a letter to this effect if it were true. Complete scam. Don't call them back.

Clearly a scam, why can't authorities shut down the phone service?

It's funny how far this guy will go! After googling the number and realising already it's a scam, my husband rang anyway to question him a bit. The guy got agitated and aggressive as others have mentioned, but went so far as to claim he is good friends with Malcolm Turnbull lol I think he was hoping to scare us into giving him details. I hope no one falls for this idiot.

Got a call today. Didn't return call after reading this. Have also posted on facebook.

I had the same as above-voicemail message saying a lawsuit had been filed against us for tax evasion, and to call back asap to avoid consequences.

Message left on my answering machine for my attorney to call or else I will face serious consequences. I called back - very dodgy, rude Indian-sounding man pushing me for my details. Scam
