Yet another number for the ATO tax scammers - caller ID matched the number given in the threatening answering machine message.

We had a telephone message left by a scammer purporting to be from ATO and accusing us of tax evasion and fraud. He left the number (02) 6064 2040 to call back from. When I called back our of curiosity the same voice answered, "Hello, Australian Tax Office". When I replied "You are joking?" he immediately hung up.
Given that this is an Australian telephone number and clearly the scammer is in breach of the Australian Telecommunications Act, surely action can be taken against him? I have reported the matter to the authorities in the hope that action can be taken. I have retained his recording on our answer machine as evidence.

Had a call just now, and have been through a terrible time recently, this was the last thing I needed to hear, lucky it is listed here when I googled, these guys are just awful, I will report them to the ATO.

I had the same message left on my landline 2 nights ago. Same number, same ridiculous message of police enforcement due to outstanding issues with Australian Tax Office. Can only suggest reporting to ATO for investigation and closing down of this scam and prosecution of the perpetrators.

ATO voice message to say that ATO will arrest you on non-payment of taxes. Scammer clearly.

Same messages left on our machine, same scam....now September 2016. I wonder why the phone number is still active & the police haven't caught up with these guys yet...?

Received a call from Jason O'Connor at the ATO. He said I was up for tax fraud and that the local police would come around and issue me with a warrant for my arrest. He then gave me this number (02) 6064 2040 to call before things went too far. Sounded like his name should have been Sanjeev Gupta from Deli tax office not Jason O'Connor! I couldn't believe this scammer gave an Australian phone number. Surely authorities can track criminals like this down. Anyhow, this is why you use an answering machine to screen your calls.

Had a call yesterday from the same number saying the same thing. Something needs to be done about these low lives.

Had a call today from this number with the same threatening message as others. Will report it to the ATO.

Had a very similar call yesterday, apparently from the ATO regarding a Fraud Investigation, very serious apparently, only this time slightly different number (02) 6064 2058.

We got the same threatening message. This is outrageous and I hope it is being investigated. While I am not falling for this, it looks like others are. There is some vulnerable people out there. Just be careful!

Received the tax fraud message on my answering machine twice

Had 2 calls 2 days in a row on my answer phone this last week. I have had this before and knowing it was a scam had rung the number left on the answer phone. The first thing they ask for is your phone number and not your ATO number. ATO will always write to you if they want your money!! AND you have opportunity to respond to their LETTER and ring the correct number. They will never ring demanding you go to the bank and pay money to an account right now. Why do people not question that??

someone claiming to be from ato hq saying there was a warrant out for my arrest because of tax evasion & tax fraud. had me in tears & then got me to give him my mobile number which he told me to keep on then had me go down & take out just under $7000 cash & redeposit into two different accounts& two different branches. Got home & then he let me hang up which is when I found out it was not the ato. went to police & back to the bank where they were able to get $4500 back for me. the other I think I will have to kiss goodbye to.

Same old scam. Don't waste the cost of the callback. If you are still concerned, call ATO Online Security or AFP Cybercrime using the directory numbers. They will quite politely inform you of the normal processes the ATO would use to contact you.

Just called then back 9 times they hung up on me the d*ckheads lol. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it you scammers. Yes I blocked my number lol

i got call and said some missleading info in your tax file
so i call again and need infor but i havnt given to him and he rude and misbehaviour but as per i talk i know that he is from" Gujarati" indian background person bcoz talk in gujarati languages
