Persistant afternoon callers who never speak when I answer the phone. I tried to call the number back, but it says the number has been disconnected.

Today at 4:29pm had a call from (02) 4905 0643. I have just called the number and get the message
@The number you called is not connected or has been disconnected. )
The number given on calling ID from the Newcastle area. From other comments it appears to be a SCAM caller that has made the call look as if it is from Australia.
We need URGENT ACTION on retention of call data but on a national basis under one organisation ( Government ) where these calls can be tracked and eliminated. It would assist all true Australians. These calls can easily be a MAJOR SECURITY RISK. How they are getting the calls through need to be identified TODAY. Only by being done by one group can this be obtained. A group that is very secure and work for true Australia. It must not be CONTRACTED OUT.
Australia needs to show the WORLD we are not open to this type of communication traffic which in most cases can come from overseas.
We need more than just talk but action.
Where they cannot hide where the call comes from.
When I called the number the voice message did not appear to be a Telstra message.

I answered because it looked like an Australian number or mobile. It was a disabled charity. Very polite Asian woman who knew my name! I said no, I already give to a lot of other charities (which is true) and hung up. Saved the number as Do Not Answer.

Currently working on an electronic gadget that will eliminate these calls and all calls except for those with the dedicated PIN .

Had a call from this number. Thought it was a local call. Couldn't understand a word that was said. Maybe they need an interpreter service.

Have had this number call a few times, the last 5 minutes ago and they always hang up when I answer. Weird.

I had a call from this number at 7.27pm on 24 September 2015. I answered because it looked like it was from the Hunter Valley where some of my family live. A polite possibly Asian female voice asked for me by name. I said that person wasn't home since I didn't want to be disturbed, and they rang off. Haven't tried to call the number back like some others above have done.

Same as Jaydee reports. This time for Cancer Research. Started to explain bowel cancer being curable etc....I just said I know, thank you and hung up. Never let her get further.

Foreign voice, very polite, said might be recorded for training purposes. Said they were from a world wide animal rescue charity and wanted me to buy items with an animal logo on them. Considering same number is linked to other charities, I suspect they somehow know what sort of charities I usually donate to and have access to a database from a fundraising organisation that collects for multiple charities. I declined and hung up while they were still trying to convince me to donate.

Keeps calling, so I let my answering system take the call - they do not leave a message - suspect it's a charity.

Had two messages from this number on my message bank - just silence....... annoying

Calls and when answered no one is there. No sounds nothing just silence.

Someone from overseas said she was from "Bowel Cancer Australia" and tried to sell me some items. Tried to recall number and the message was that it had been disconnected. Beware.

Keeps phoning but when I try to ring back number has been disconnected.
