Claiming to be from the ATO (Australian Taxation Office) in regards to tax evasion. Scam. Do not answer. Do not call back. Spread the warning.

Phoned me saying I was due to be paid a refund of $7589 for overcharges for everything from rates to shopping at the supermarket. Was told to ring this number and speak to Manager Alan Johnson. Seems the refund amount is the same for all but the manager has different names

Called me said they were from Australian Government had a refund of $7589 asked if I'd prefer direct deposit or cheque. I said cheque. I was asked D.O.B. (I gave a false one) and told to call this number and ask for Derek Watson or Norma Stewart quoting reference id - DY39. Definately a scam.

They called my elderly mother too and told her they had a cheque to send her worth $7589. All she had to do is pay $350 at the ANZ bank and they would send the cheque to her. His name was "Alex Watson". A definite scam. When she told them to send the cheque and then she would gladly pay the money, he hung up on her...

Definitely a scam. I got the story that they were from the AU finance department. When I agreed to take the original call further I was told to call this number and talk to the managers - The names they gave were Eric Watson and Norma Stewart. I was told that to get the money I needed to make a payment to a solicitor working with them. When I laughed and accused them of being a scam she hung up on me. The number does not answer now. This should be shut down. Any Telco that allows these people to use our network and numbers should be help responsible if the scammers can not be traced.

They called my elderly mum today saying she was owed money by the government. As she is elderly and has dementia she believed them. She gave them her bank but luckily not account number
