What do these people get out of making these calls!!! Is it only to sell confirmation of owners and their numbers?

It's about time that Telstra came clean and explained to us how calls can come from disconnected numbers. Then again getting in touch with Telstra is just a plain waste of time.

Unfortunately it's not our telcos' problem. Our authorities allow people in overseas countries (especially India) to purchase Australian numbers which are then used to scam us. Quite a number of internet scammers buy our 1-800 numbers. If you receive many phone calls, go online to the ACMA website and lodge a complaint. In time the offending number will be disconnected. Complaints to Telstra usually result in them telling you to change your number; idiots!

Same as above, answered as it looked like a local number. The guy said he was calling about government solar panels, said not interested and I hang up. About 1 hour later, the number called again so I didn't answer. Possibly a scam.

Received a call from an indian woman this lunchtime. Could not really understand her, but something about solar. I did not have the time today to waste her time, so just had to hang up.
