Left a message saying my order from Dan Murphys was ready to pick up. Call was legitimate in this case. Appears to be a Telstra SMS to voice message system so call could be instigated from many sources.

Spent two hours last night on phone to telstra trying to get this service???disabled
After speaking to 4 different people, I was told the sms to talk was now deactivated.
I was doubtful, and this morning received two more sms to talk messages.
The computer voice they use, I can't understand it.
Obviously the plan for telstra is to get everybody off the landlines by driving everybody mad with brainless technology that telstra can't control.

(01)98339100 is a Telstra talking text from mobile to landline. It's legitimate. My msg. Was "we are on our way home" in a computerised voice. So I hung up, not listening to end of msg. As I had been waiting for my daughter, husband to arrive home I rang my daughter. She said she had sent the message. She mistakenly sent msg. to my home phone instead of my mobile. However, she knew of Telstra talking txt. I agree with Jack & Alan.

Message left on my landline. Some dodgy robotic voice said I had received a message and it gave me a variety of prompts to reply message, save message, delete message, etc. I simply deleted the message, but not by using their suggested method...

Is there any cost to the receiver of these calls? If answered, or if not?

I have been getting this number 0198339100 trying to call me every 8 minutes today (Tues 9th May - 2017). The first time I answered it there was no one there. After reading your comments, the next time it rang I answered by just saying, "Hello". I then heard a female voice saying, "Hey Babe" and was then given the number 0467 611 989 to call. I looked that number up on this site and there's no information. It sounds like someone looking for sex to me. (Sorry Madam, not interested!) Maybe it's a brothel seeking clients.

If you wait about 10 seconds, a recorded voice comes on the line. its a digital mobile to landline SMS recording.
It gives you a voice recording of the message and tells you the mobile number that sent it. Handy now that I know.

Telstra's Talking Text service

It is someone sending a text SMS to your landline. Have a look at Telstra website.

https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Home-Phones-Services-KB/Telstra-s-Fixed-Line-SMS-service-Talking-text-Send-Receive-from/ta-p/235691

Talking Text SMS:

Received calls from 0198339100 and 0198339999 is Telstra's Talking Text service.
If you receive a call from this number it is someone trying to send you an SMS.
If you have SMS capable equipment, T-hub, other SMS capable handset or a fax machine, it will be able to receive the message, otherwise it will read the SMS out to you using a computerised voice.

When you pick up the phone, say something to trigger the delivery otherwise it will start in about 5 seconds.
It will tell you how many SMS messages there are in the opening greeting then begin playing the first message.

After it has read out each message it will read out the senders phone number and the time/date it was sent. If there is more than one message it will read out each of the messages in the order they were received. Each message is deleted once it is read.

During the message being read out you can press:
1 To replay the message (replay each message up to 3 times).
2 To reply to the message – Telstra customers. (See below for list of reply options).
5 To delete the message (If there are more messages, it will begin reading the next message).
6 To go to next message (It will automatically delete the previous message).

Reply messages:
1 yes
2 No
3 OK
3 Please call me
4 I'll call you later
5 Smiley face
6 Sad face

Once all messages have been delivered you will be given the option to go into settings by dialling 3
In the setup menu you will be given the following options:
(1) Delivery mode – Talking text only or Auto detect (see below).
(2) Night Time – (see below).
(3) Ring time – (see below).
(4) CLIR – for silent line services that wish to send messages.
